What colour should we paint our small, modern open plan kitchen living
Comments (51)Wow yes lots to waken up to and I'm so grateful for the help! Thanks so much! I tried mforr to find one o those room colouring things for a shop here in the uk and whilt you can do it with dulux paint brand, it didnt seem to like my iPad so need to get onto it on my laptop! Having slept on it I'm thinking I like the idea of doing the kitchen only in colour, and then having highlights of the colour in the LR with cushions perhaps. We considered curtains too but I'm not sure if it would crowd the LR. We are sure that the coffee table is too big also, but I love it (it has a glass top and we can present things in the drawer below). We also have no dining table so this is our only space for setting out food! I'm still liking the green, but the yellow goes well too. We have a tea/coffee jars on our kitchen work top (might be just visible in the pictures) which are green yellow and grey, so if I bring these along to the DIY shop they could colour match those for me. (Along with the list you sent me too mforr!) I will def be back on to show you all the results!! :)...See MoreNeed help with designing kitchen/dining/living room open living plan
Comments (10)Thank you for your response. We had plans pretty finalised until we found out that we can keep just that long wall into the large space as it is a load-bearing. There is an opportunity to put a door in though. I am attaching what it looked like with all the walls that we can now remove. We have also been tinkering with ideas which I am adding as well. I added some comments on the plans as well. What we want to have is a dining area with a large table that seats 8-10 people. We want enough space for two people to work and cook in the kitchen. Thus, we were thinking of an island or an L-shape workspace coming out. We'd like to have a utility room to have space for all the cleaning utensils. Washer and Dryer will be upstairs in a separate laundry room. The living room is nothing formal but an area to relax and watch TV. We'd like to have an L-shaped cough in there for a family of four (2 kids under the age of 10)....See MoreNo idea on how to furnish our living room! Help on layout needed :)
Comments (10)In some ways it’s good to have such a large TV. Let’s face it you are sitting a very long way from it in your lovely big room! You are wondering how to make the door end of the room look used. I think we are talking trade offs with the design here, in terms of cost and layout. If you can spend a bit of money it might be worth investigating how to design a new fireplace that incorporates the TV. Sounds horrendous I know, but because you have a large tv it might work, though you’d have to be VERY careful about balance in the positioning and get specialist advice on insulating the tv from the heat from the fire. You also need to consider how much time you spend watching tv and if the upwards angle of view might give you a stiff neck from where you place the sofa...BUT... this would enable you to bring Carolina’s room layout back towards the door, making the room look more occupied, you could then also use celery girls idea to put a sort of separate more intimate seating area in the bay window - two statement chairs and a little table, maybe flanked by a pair of enormous table lamps in front of the curtains to fill the corners and highlight the curtains at night....See MoreLayout/Design ideas for our open plan living space
Comments (4)Hi Rishi Firstly congratulations on planning approval and what a lovely space you are creating. I do think the length @ approx 8.7mt is extremely long for a kitchen on it's own and so would benefit from being broken up. Whilst the utility is fixed i would consider moving the door further into the space to create a natural divide between the kitchen and possibly a snug area. Otherwise you loose the option of using the back wall for any real functionality - it will in effect just be a thru passage. Position of kitchen can either be immediately as you enter the room or further away towards the window / bi-fold. It really does depend upon how you see the dynamics of the room. Having the kitchen nearer to the entrance to the hallway means you can convert windows to bifolders or sliders balancing out the lounge area; the Kitchen then becomes more centrally positioned within the house. The path from front to the kitchen is shortest and easiest for putting away all that Party food shopping :) And you also get a great view into all 3 zones (dining room, lounge, snug) Imagine both sets of doors open and bringing the party to the outside space. Having the kitchen on an L-shape under the window enables the natural light to flood the kitchen area. The position of this kitchen layout creates a natural link between the snug & lounge. Whilst the dining room is a little further and concealed from view this means there is a clear demarcation of informal dining (via breakfast bar or table off the island) and a more formal room. Things to bear in mind wrt the island 1. jumbo slab sizes of stone are typically 3.2mt and longer and you would need a joint 2. compact resin tops can be found @ 3.6mt - 4.1mt and @ 1300mm deep. 3. acrylic wtops can be made at any size and the joints blended to create a seamless look oh gosh i could go on and on.... please contact us if you would like to talk thru any of my rational. meanwhile i wish you the best of luck on your amazing project regs belinda...See MoreEmily
