Open plan living room/kitchen

Hello

ihave painted my open plan area with farrow and ball skimming stone with a feature wall in the colour worsted. Also farrow and ball. My accent colour is purple and my sofas are purple. I have just bought a beautiful area rug-a Kelim with blues purplesreds but I wondered what type and colour rug I should put under my dining room table?

Ooh, please move the toaster before you set fire to the cupboard over it. Putting a toaster under a cabinet is actually dangerous. Constantly heating the cupboard will dry the carcass out until it can actually ignite eventually. To pull the top and bottom cabinets together with the flooring and tiles i'd change all the kitchen equipment and cannisters etc to a bronze colour. Making them all the same theme colourwise will make it look more polished and elegant. As the kitchen area is a little dark, take away everything from the window sill to maximize the light. Don't put up a blind as that will hinder further. I can't quite make out some of your dimensions needed, so this is a rough guess. Maybe something like this could work. You are hindered by the fact that your doors open inwards and I'd highly suggest changing that.

Hi, Could you extend slightly, and create a small lightwell area off the back of the main house to then place your second bedroom there? That means you can leave the rear as the main living/kitchen and the front becomes the sleeping accommodation. Please let us know if you'd like to discuss further. Apologies for the rough sketch!

Have a look at F&B All White. It looks fresh but has a softness to it. You could have a dark feature but I’m not convinced it would be a good idea in a north facing room. I agree with everyone saying that open plan is good if you have a dedicated enclosed space for a snug or second living room. My son is an architect and he has seen a major change with people requesting ways to separate spaces to revert back to a more traditional layout. What about privacy for those moments when kids bring their friends over, they really do not want parents listening and being in their space! Designing a space for a growing family means trying to future proof the footprint. No matter how quiet appliances are meant to be, they will end up irritating you. We have a coffee machine, extractor fan, washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave, kettle in our current kitchen and are lucky enough to be able to move the kitchen into a 10sqm study to create a separate utility and then build a rear extension with a kitchen / diner / snug. We also have a ground floor loo and living room on the other side of the house. The noise of appliances we find exceptionally intrusive, partitions and half height walls may help reduce the noise but won’t eliminate them. Have you also thought about where you will store the kids toys, books etc and how easily you will be able to hide food preparation and washing etc from visitor? I do like the idea of having sliding doors if that is at all possible to zone off spaces when you do want a quiet area.
