Comments (9)Hi Annie How about carved wooden fretwork panels above the bed, see attached images. Maybe not as large as these, as you have large headboard. Also the room needs a few decorative touches, how about real or faux orchids on the bedside table. I would also suggest a large rug to warm the room up, and would suggest moving the sofa away from the window to the bottom of the bed, if it's the same width, or alternatively buy an upholstered ottoman the same width as bed. I can't really see what lighting you have, but it looks like the room could take a large statement chandelier? If the mirror isn't attached to chest of drawers then remove this and replace with a large freestanding ornate mirror alongside....See MoreWIN products from our Houzz of 2018 Kid’s Bedroom! Comments (6)Hello Lisa, yes, hanging something low over your bed can affect your mood, sleep, etc., and that includes structures like wooden beams. You wondered what kind of lighting would be recommended for a small bedroom from a Feng Shui point of view. How you ‘dress’ your bedroom is very important as about a third of your life is spent there. Soft lighting in the right place is key as strong or harsh lighting is too stimulating and can cause insomnia, etc. Lighting in the ceiling above a bed is said to increase mental stress, affect the endocrine system and lead to insomnia, bad dreams, respiratory problems, etc. The best solution is to have that area of ceiling totally clear with one or two floor or table lamps near your bed producing soft lighting. If you already have the electrics in place for a ceiling lamp, you could always have a ceiling fan there instead as that is a lovely feature anyway for a bedroom. Some Feng Shui practitioners say that a combined ‘light and fan’ in the ceiling is ok as the movement of the blades soften the harshness of the light. There are lots of other tips for bedrooms like ensuring your door does not face a mirror, and having as few electric appliances as possible in the room (e.g., phones, TVs and other gadgets), etc. Joy...See MoreLamp size for narrow night stand
Comments (8)Thanks both. I have opted for this bedside table as it has high legs and meets the size requirements: https://www3.next.co.uk/style/ES798424/798424?gclid=Cj0KCQiA-OeBBhDiARIsADyBcE6hd81YIer6_WDWMEng1ZdPo3PY34TdW00c5gK8yKm8UT0pxa_sq2EaApWJEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds I thought about the plug in wall lamps but the hanging wire put me off. I also wanted touch lights as I hate having to feel around for the switch in the dark, I’ve gone for these as they are slim and have USB ports (handy for if we charge the phones overnight) : Crystal Touch Table Lamp with 2 Dual Fast USB Charg... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0895XSMZD/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_api_fabc_MVEAKBZABAG3V0CHB9EB?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 I will see how these look when they arrive. I’m planning to keep it simple, a lamp on each side and then just glasses (my side) and a clock (husbands side). If I have space I will look for a small plant for each side too, it depends on how it all looks as I don’t want it to look cluttered. Would you recommend putting a mirror above the bedside tables or should I leave the wall empty? I thought it would like nice next to the tall headboard. I’m unsure though as one bedside table will be next to a mirrored wardrobe....See More- 8 years ago
