Which flooring to choose?

I have to make a quick decision regarding flooring for my new apartment. It's a choice of a pale grey or a spotted gum. I've included kitchen colours in photo. The flooring will go in kitchen and living dining which is one open area. The grey matches very well with kitchen and carpet(in bedroom) but I'm concerned that the pale grey will date and restrict furniture choice. I had bought some timber furniture in light oak colour which I'm not sure will now work on a grey floor? The spotted gum on the other hand might look too stripy and sometimes I don't like the look of different coloured wood furniture on yet a different coloured wooden floor. The apartment will initially be rented out and I'm going to fully furnish it but then I'll be moving in and will use the furniture that's in there. My personal preference is for a Scandinavian look but which floor works best?? I'm also happy to sell the few oak pieces I've bought and buy different furniture if I need to.

The grey floor actually looks taupe in the photos on my screen, and I think it might be a bit wishy washy with the greys in the kitchen. I like the rich wood colour and it can look fabulous when laid throughout with no doorway partitions. If it is too stripy there will be other woods in a similar colour with less stripes.

Hi!

Grey probably won't "age" as well as spotted gum, but spotted gum is quite a rich wood colour, and as you said stripy, so while you may like the sample when laid the stripes will be a lot more visible?

Grey is definitely the more "Scandi" of the two though! What does everyone else think?

Hi We provide LED lamps in 2700K (very warm - yellow) , 3000K (warm white - yellow), 4000K (cool white - white will a hint of yellow), 5000K (soft daylight - very white), 6000K (daylight - more harsh white with hint of blue). Between different makes of LEDs - there will be variations too. What we have seen is that this is very much on personal preference and also how the light interacts with the colour of the units in your room. You should try some options if possible and see what you prefer. If you want to warm your room up go for warm white. If you want to have a sharper look go for cool whiite 4000K (we are seeing this is getting more popular), if you want seriously white then go for daylight (5-6000K). One thing we recommend against is using all in one LED fixture like the H2, because the LED market is moving fast, In 4 years time, if one fixture fails and this unit is not made anymore, it may be replaced with a non-matching fixture. With a LED GU10, you can just change the bulb without having to replace the fixture. Out Professional 7W DGP4 lamp has interchangeable lens (60 degree standard and 38 degrees optional) and really bright. Additionally, you should also check the under cabinet lighting. No choice: Natural light every time. Sunlight is essential for maintaining a healthy body and the production of vitamin D to prevent rickets. Its also worth noting that there are issues regarding environments where there is only artificial light (often found in long term living in bunkers or submarines) where the bodies circadian rhythm goes haywire (it can be mitigated with simulated nighttime lighting etc but it's not great)

Haha ! I couldnt find a recent photo Oops. yes want to keep it to carpeting (I‘m a power-chair user & theyre so much noisier on other floorings so carpet is best for me :)) ) Not planning on changing anything else, just want to update the chaise & find a carpet that suits the whole space better : )

Thanks everyone I can only choose between these options as part of the inclusions package. I've been changing my mind every few hours. If I was making the decision just for now I think I'd go grey, but as I'm likely to keep the apartment for next 20 years I think the spotted gum?

Hi, we think the grey is a very neutral, safe shade that will allow you to change the style of your room as much as you wish. It gives you the chance to use your furniture and accessories to create contrast and bring in pops of colour. The spotted gum is a timeless shade but as Isidora has suggested, you may find it a little too stripy when you see it over a larger area.

Hi! If you're after a Scandi look I would go with the grey one - you can also put rugs on it with cool patterns in the kitchen as well as under your dining table. It looks more neutral and will look very nice with the kitchen. As it's lighter it will need more frequent cleaning and it does limit you a bit with your furniture, but as it's grey it still gives you many options. Can you add pictures of you oak pieces? It depends on their style and color shade whether they match or not! Hope this helps :)

The pale grey has a more clean, contemporary, minimal look. Where as the brown has a more traditional, homely feel. So if you prefer the Scandi look then perhaps you should go for the grey!

grey to match the rest of your decor, but a very very dark/brown or black wooden floor would look rich with the grey theme? that i think your going for

I had a similar dilemma a few weeks ago - I'd personally go for the richer wood colour as I think it will feel warmer while still matching your kitchen colours
