Kitchen layout problem
Comments (17)Hi Guys - thank you all. I just got CAD email from new designers (see below). I guess this is going to be the best compromise. Shelley - The yellow brick wall room is a pantry accessed by the narrow (24") beige door that you see. The plan is to remove the beige door and brick it up, then make a 26" wide access through the yellow brick wall. When the new internal door is fitted (where red floor changes to blue) this will section off a kind of porch/utility room between the kitchen and back door (glass door thru which you can see a handrail). It will house the washing machine on the pantry side and tumble dryer opposite, below the boiler. New Plan - nice but no fridge above worktop height or coffee bar for chats. I'll have to talk to friends thru the archway I guess, but no problem. I don't need that much storage space so might replace a cupboard with a freezer. Lefty - good idea but Ikea are 53 miles away (1hr 40min) and I doubt they'd knock walls down etc. What do you think, guys? Half glazed door to section off the porch? Anyone got a suggestion for lighting? Shall I get low wattage recessed ceiling spots? Should I put two 14" doors thru to the lounge or just leave it an open archway? :-)...See MoreDoor leaking problem
Comments (3)When it was fitted was the bottom suitably sealed / treated? Particularly if it was adjusted to fit. Do you have a weather bar fitted on the outside? You should be able to seal the dog flap with a suitable silicone sealant....See Morekitchen corner problem
Comments (15)Thanks all. The colour roundthe corner is a good idea. Wine rack is a no no . !possibly some base shelving or vertical rack ..with alight colour and dark colour combo may tie it all up but a bit contrived .or justa light colour door. .And then I would maybe have dark short wall cupboards instead of shelves to span between wall and tall units..thinking the grey stoneworktop will bring it all together .....See MoreOpen plan kitchen problem
Comments (45)Sorry Mat not sure if I follow. Are you having storage put in by the door? There is no storage labelled on your plans. If so, then visually speaking, the room starts from where the floor starts not from where the wall behind the cabinets starts. So if you have the same distance from both sides i.e. from right wall and from the left cabinet, it will still look symmetrical. Do you see how the room starts from the door of the cabinet and not from the splash back behind the sink? Here the column between the doors looks the same size as the wall next to the cabinets, whereas in reality the wall is at least 60cm wider. Again here the door appears to be in the centre of the room but in reality the wall on the left hand side is much wider because it carries on behind the cabinets. The designer has cleverly placed a T.V. there to stop the eye from noticing the rest of the wall. The same effect can be achieved with floor to ceiling cabinets. Was that what you were asking about or have I gone way off?...See MoreCaldicot Kitchen & Bathroom Centre
