what paint do i use for my garage door?

i need to paint our current wooden garage doors. at the moment the paint is very thick and cracking off. not sure where to start...do i sand the doors down before painting or use a paint remover? And what paint would be recommended for outside?

HiTino Felly, Marie Here. Your off to a great start - but you've made a common mistake in that you've found your inspiration for your colour palette, but your not committing to it. You need to bring the greens and blues up onto the walls and onto the floor - commit to it. You could: - add a great throw rug underneath the bed, - add big table lamp beside the bed - or better yet, a wall sconce, - drapery isn't really the best choice for this bedding - I would have brought in a bold graphic print here, in either the blue or the green - artwork can stay neutral - even do a collection of mixed metals in chrome, gold, and have fun with that - if you add too much in the blue and green it becomes boring and un-special. Choose your accessories carefully, I'd change out your drapery - go with something bolder, I'd also get a larger night stand so you could put a proper table lamp there. Good Luck!

Hi, I am renovating an 1850s house with 9ft ceilings and have been through the same problem (I am 5ft 2). I ended up buying a garden tower, daft as it sounds, and it has been the best purchase ever. I feel completely safe and it has allowed me to do some really long laborious tasks such as repairing lath and plaster ceilings and restoring cornice in comfort. It has wheels on one end so you can move it around the room easily and you can cover a bigger area than a ladder without moving it along. It dismantles really easily and doesn't take up much space either. I think your instinct is spot on - the grey does not go with your lovely house at all! You said yourself, 'the grey craze', why follow the herd? Perhaps you should question why you want a 'contemporary colour' instead of one of the many choices which will enhance your beautiful period house. You don't see lovely pink Suffolk cottages, or the black and white half timbered houses characteristic of some areas daubed with grey because it's the latest fad.

Good morning, May I suggest for the front door and garage be painted the same in a very high gloss, possibly from farrow and balls collection a colour that has similarly to the stone used on the house such as.....Archive or Oxford stone which should compliment the brown window frames? I would also suggest you remove all the terracotta planters and replace them with some contemporary natural stone or paint the planters same as the door and they should be tall and plant some large box balls or sphere shapes which should update the look?
