How to paint awkward bedroom

We're currently renovating a 1930s semi and have nearly finished the upstairs- we have been living in the half finished master bedroom but the time has come to decorate it properly but I'm stumped as to what to do! The room had already been extended and we have had to put another steel in to support the chimney stack in the loft, we've also carved out an ensuite shower room that has left us with a higgeldy piggeldy combination of walls/beams/different heights of ceilings. My husband will be building a bed from reclaimed wood which will go against the back wall and we are thinking about a deep teal/green painted feature wall however should we continue the colour around the beams/on to the ensuite wall? Open to ideas as to how to use a strong colour without it becoming overpowering!

I think a teal would look great with the rustic wood of the bed. Add in metal elements to really bring it to life. Coppers warm but will Antique Brass will be more on trend in the coming year. I would just do the Teal as a back drop to the bed only and a complimentary colour on the other walls. will it be a fourposter? What sort of look/style will you be looking for in the room?

Thanks for your comment! Think it will be quite a large headboard but then a lower footboard so as not to close in the room, struggling with a complementary colour as I originally was thinking a pale grey but we've already used that in the landing/bathroom and spare room so think my husbands a bit sick of it! Think the look we are going for is a mix of rustic/industrial/scandi nothing too feminine but i would like it to feel cosy. Any ideas on what would go well with the teal?

It might look pretty on the pics but to live in such a white room for a long time, would be too white. Although one can vary it with coloured blankets or rugs.

I found the Dulux Visualator, or whatever it’s called, to be pretty useless. I used it once to visualise my old sitting room colour just to see how accurate it was. My walls were Dulux Elderflower so compared it on the Dulux online thingy and it was completely different!

I think you would actually be ok with taking the color over it all. It probably depends more on how you wanted the room to feel. The current lighter tone gives space to the room, but your selection Oval Room Blue, would probably give you a more intimate feel. With white items such as wardrobes etc, it could end up giving a coastal feel which you could build on as a theme with linen bedclothes, lampshades, blinds.

Hi- as a very quick suggestion, I would put a shallow bookcase on the left hand side of the window, then run a long shelf over the radiator all the way along the radiator. (You may wish to get a radiator cover too). Then I would put wall hooks underneath the shelf. The children will soon be able to reach and use both, giving them a place to put toys and hang up their own coats or dressing up costumes.

I think grey would be lovely, I do love a house that blends from room to room. It helps it feel light and airy. You can always have different accent colours in each room to keep them individual.

With regards the painting, i'd go for a plain colour all round with the exception of the wall behind the bed, which can contrast in paper or paint. Plus, i'd make a feature of the columns and beams and keep them white like the ceiling.

Maybe a blue grey and then petrol and grey wallpaper?

Hi Felicity

Thought I would check in and give my six-penny worth! Consider Muriva™ Sparkle Glamour Real Glitter Bug Wallpaper in Teal as back feature. Muriva are British based and have a large range of different designs. We met their Sales manager a year ago and some Wow schemes including industrial.

The Teal glitter would make a statement (see image) on the back wall behind your new bed, coupled with the contrasting comforter set (image also). To complement the colouration suggest a duck egg blue paint over the rest of the room.
