Finish the hall way
Comments (52)Bellesum, thank you very much for the suggestions. Sounds lovely, however, this is an area for the dog when we are at work and at night, so we would not want to close this off. Can I just say thank you for all the input into the finishing touches. Didn't think we would be building more furniture here, but loving the idea of the bench, really excited about getting him to start making this! I will slowly wear him down r.e painting the radiator cover, as agree that in cream it would look better. This will take time though lol Just to ask further :) the doors, this is a temporary fix. This house was a real tip when we moved in, and some temporary fixes have been put in place i.e eyesores that I could not live with and know will take time to get round too, so needed to make ok. I like the door, but my hubby doesn't, I take on-board what has been said by JPP221 - if you have any suggestions for this, please say. Thank you again x...See MoreWhat practical feature/item do you secretly crave for your house?
Comments (98)Lights which automatically turn on when I enter a room (especially in the kitchen and in the hallway from the bedroom to the bathroom) and lights inside my wardrobes (especially inside the one in the bedroom: I often get up earlier than my hubby, and it may be still dark outside, and I don't want to wake him up while I'm looking for my stockings)....See MoreCould this ugly house ever be a dream home?
Comments (47)I love a challenge, I would extend the garage to the full width of the property. Re-position the front door to the center with a window and a contemporary wide door as shown. Next I would remove all the hanging tiles and render as picture. For a full contemporary look change the windows to a dark grey profile. This will create internally a larger entrance, giving the owner more internal space, keep it open plan! I cannot see any images of the existing interior to advise a room layout. The back of the property looks rendered....I love the balcony, which I am hoping is off a living room??? Again if within budget replace the existing windows with dark grey profile, put dark grey bi folds where the sliding doors are at present, extend the patio by 1.5 meters, to allow for external seating area......keep it minimal. Spray the existing railings dark grey. A couple of strategically placed large pots with topiary trees.........Your Done!...See MoreHallway opening
Comments (18)Hi there! During renovations it is a common occurrence to run into design issues created by existing structural elements (that's what made us to set up BetterSpace ;-) Depending on the size and condition of the beam as well as your design style you have a few options. Firstly, if it does not make a big impact on your overall ceiling height and the spaciousness of the hallway you could lower the ceiling to encase the beam and in so doing eliminate the need to address the problem. Second, would be to box the beam in the same material and finish as the ceiling in a effort to blend it with the rest of the ceiling. Third, if your design style allows for it, is to make the beam into a feature by either highlighting the existing materials or cladding it in a material like timber to contrast the ceiling maybe going so far as to add mock columns to the wall in order to create a architrave from one part of the hallway to the next. A last and more invasive option (depending on the construction) would be to involve a structural engineer to see if the beam can not perhaps be replaced with a steel I-beam of a size that would make it fit within the parameters your existing ceiling design allows for. If you need further assistance - please feel free to get in touch through our site - www.betterspace.co Good luck! Ed...See MoreA S
