Hallway opening

Hello everyone,
So some last minute issue in our extension. We have pushed our hallway further down and has a shower door opening to one side, wall against it is going to have some glass brick wall to let more light. Another door opens out to our extended kitchen diner. Now the issue is we have found out the ceiling has a load bearing beam running across the hallway and we can’t remove it. It’s kind of obstructing the flow of the hallway ceiling. Any idea as to how can we avoid it becoming an eyesore ?

Comments (7)I have solid wood flooring in most of my house, tiling in the kitchen and hall. We bought the wood unfinished and did all of the finishing ourselves (it was already sanded). Cost wise it worked out around £30 per square metre which is really good. Most of the wood I finished in Osmo Oil either Raw first and then clear or white first and then clear. It does darken and warm with age so this needs to be factored in when designing colour palettes. If you like fairly neutral palettes this can work well, if you prefer lots of colour then a more consistent Amtico product or factory finished wood may be preferable. I wanted to be able to re-finish and re-oil my floors if necessary. Comments (15)Thanks Jonathan. yes, i expect the developer to be reluctant. But I plan to present it to them as a win. There are a number of ways they will benefit from it. Hopefully, from their perspective not building these walls is less work. There are a few things included in price I won’t want: - 4 radiators (Id have underfloor Heating downstairs) - tiling in the kitchen (I’d make all wooden floor) - Fridge - I’d like an American style fridge which they don’t seem to offer. I’d be willing to give up the fridge if they go my way My alternative would be to ask them to have all of it uninstalled and sell it to fund the work I need to do myself/hire someone. The only cupboards I would lose are the corner ones. But Id gain some storage space in the kitchen island (i was looking at multifunctional ones). And we would leave the first bit of a wall on the left to put some shelving if needed. I’m not thinking of loft conversion but if I had money for that, I would find it for sprinkles/mist system that would solve the problem....See MoreNarrow terraced house layouts

6 years agoIt turned out well. I just made the ceiling in between with feature 3D wallpaper and I am happy with how it looks.
