Hi,

We have now looked at normal white upvc windows, Residence 9 and Modus S. and am even more confused.

Am attaching photo which shows the different colours we could have, would appreciate your thoughts and help choosing . Just don't want to get it wrong.

Door has been narrowed down to either Solidor Milano in anthracite with sandblasted side panels or Hormann TPS 900 in anthracite with sandblasted side panels.

Hi, try the yourpad app or equivalents which allow you to visualise the windows on existing builds.

If you have an image of the build I can have a play around for you to see what the variations look like. (just an option)

Do bare in mind that the solider anthracite grey is a very warm grey

Thanks for your advice everyone. We thought about steps. The extension is 6m wide so I think instead of looking like a zoo it will be a theatre! It is worth considering though. We only want the deck as access to the garden really. Maybe no more than 2m. We will use the right hand side as a patio area. We didn't really want a deck but seems like it is the right solution to have folding doors straight out to the garden rather than having windows. If we had windows we wouldn't have to deal with this deck business!

Hi Jonathan, A nice big span like that will really open up the extension to the outdoor space and will look amazing. Crittall will provide the style and class, and with the wide span I would look at putting maybe three sets of double doors seperated by frames so on a nice day you can open all three sets of doors and get a real link to the outside. They'll be quick and easy to shut and you can adopt just the one double door as your frequent use door if the weather is unkind. See our website for more information on Crittall Doors and Windows and download the brochures. The example photo shows two sets of double doors in frames over a six meter span. Note: One more thing to consider is the lead time - Crittall has a lead time of 16-20 weeks, so if you do plan on installing Crittall, get the order in within plenty of time. Bifolding doors do not need to look so modern and (dare I say) a bit sterile - horizontal glazing bars can provide the contemporary look if you are after the Crittall style. The big advantage of bifolds is you can get a clear 95% width opening, so in good weather, you really are at one with the outdoors. You should either look to fit an odd number of doors all folding to one side so you can have one frequent use "traffic" door, or an even number of doors split in the middle so you can have two traffic doors in the middle that act like standard patio doors. (With big span like your plans show, I'd go for the latter.) To carry off the industrial look, you would need to get bifold doors with very fine sightlines, such as Sunflex SF55, with proper horizontal glazing bars (not superficial stick on bars). See the bifolding doors available on our website. If budget is a concern (big extension projects can quickly run away with costs) then you may wish to consider something like the "Heritage Aluminium" range, which matches the contemporary style of steel windows, but comes at an aluminium price. Perhaps not quite as prestige or exquisite as steel, but a very popular product with some good advantages. What colour bedroom furniture with oak windows/doors?

Thank you both for taking the time to reply. I think one of the rooms might well end up with green accents, but I don't think I would like green furniture - would prefer something neutral so that if we wanted to change the colour scheme in the future we could easily without having to replace the furniture. I suspect the other (master) bedroom will end up a more coastal colour scheme. @Sonia, thank you I had been looking at the Cotswold Company so that's good to hear their stuff might work quite nicely. Sadly we don't live that close to any of their stores and I tend to like to see furniture in the flesh but perhaps we'll have to make a trek. Would still be interested to hear what wood types/colours would work best as I don't really like all matching furniture in a room, so I suspect we'll want to have various different items in each of the two bedrooms,.

Windows- I think they suit this house but I understand the instinct to add more decorative elements to a house that is handsome but plain- perhaps instead of costly new windows you should concentrate on curb appeal. Porch- wouldn’t this make the drive too narrow? Would you even see a new front door? Why not just paint your front door and add great lighting and some expensive looking planters? Brickwork- I would ask a painter decorator to experiment on a less visible part of the side brickwork- perhaps a couple of darker colours sponged on with a protective layer of brick sealer would help disguise the mismatched brick……. It might also be possible to have the mismatched brick replaced with a better match and I would probably spend money on this rather than change windows that look fine to me. Curb appeal- this is the area I think you should concentrate your spending. I would upgrade the drive, build a low front wall with railings mounted on it. I would plant a hedge inside the wall and add some tall planting to the front garden. I would put a border of shrubs in front of the front window and a wide trellis roof the right of the front window, then a path for the window cleaner, then remove the shingle of the front garden replacing with either formal garden, easy maintenance shrubs or a paved sitting area to enjoy some privacy behind your new hedge. And I would stain the fence you share with the neighbour and the one at the end of the drive- you should make your decision on colour after the drive colour is chosen- personally I think you should choose a drive to match the roof colour and the fence should be a stone colour. Depending on what your budget is Chris, you could have a 3D render of the property done. These allow you to see the windows and doors on the property and try different colours/options. It may help. I know with many of my customers the investment of a 3D image is worth it when the products themselves with be thousands - it's something it's very hard to go back on once it's done.
