This sectional one or that one? (Or others ones?)

We are re-doing our living room and just installed hardwood floors. Now we need a sectional (family of five with three little ones). I am thinking gray--not sure what shade? We are considering this Jonathan Lewis sectional - http://www.furniturerow.com/fr/Sofa-Mart/Sarah-3-Pc.-Sectional/prod1900003//#.WO1H3aK1uUl

I'd order this in a gray fabric.

OR a local store carries Craftmaster sectionals, like this - http://cmfurniture.com/craftmaster-sectional/f9332-sect-134/iteminformation.aspx

On these you custom order the fabric/color/arms/etc.

I don't know much about these brands, but would love any feedback or help. Decisions really stress me out, especially around these expensive purchases.

I have a Jonathan Lewis sofa/chaise and the fabric is good quality, but hard to clean and the cushions are too soft. I have had it about 3 years and have to replace the cushions and I am having to decide if I want to do that or buy new. CertaPro Painters above makes very good points about sitting in them. But sitting for a few minutes, doesn't do it. You have to force yourself to sit for 10 minutes straight and then try to get up out of it. If you can do it, then you probably will be OK. Soft feels good for a few minutes, but for a hour watching TV not so great on the back. Good luck. Hope these tips help.

Having bought a new sofa a few months ago, I would highly recommend going into the store and sitting down on as many as you can. Sofas that I saw online looked different in person and the quality of the fabric varies so much! Some sofas were very uncomfortable to actually sit on, or the chaise separated from the rest when you sat down. Both of your pics look beautiful, it's just hard to tell from a photo if the fabric is rough, if it's not too deep to put your feet on the floor when you sit down, or if it's comfy to sit on.

Thanks, I totally agree, which is why I am only considering ones I can sit on. Both I can sit on in local stores, and both seem pretty comfy. We are a tall family though, so that definitely needs considered!

Me again! Can we also have a reader's how to section. Such as a designer showing in pictures how to stage a sideboard with bijouterie depending on style, or how to style a bedroom with accents, or even articles on how to achieve X,Y,Z on a budget (I'm sure Houzzer's will have an idea - maybe this could be a section in itself?) Articles on colour or pattern matching etc would appeal vastly methinks. Even simple things that can easily be found on an internet search such as how to prep bannisters for painting would give a more magazine feel. Also a regional links page for cateogries. These could accompany articles. For eg. an article on prepping with images and step by step along with a list of Houzz recommended companies regionally who could undertake the work or fix a botched job! Topics I would be interested in include: How to add value to your home, how to maximise light, how to achieve a professional finish decorating; interior design ideas; how to change the facade of a property; flowers for the garen, door way, flowers for shaded areas, climbers for shaded areas, scented plants, how to ensure colour in the garden all year round etc. Decorating/furnishing ideas to create optical illusions to create size/light etc. Thanks for asking. I love this site and literlly spend hours getting lost on it with a cup of coffee :-)

Hope I'm not a dinosaur, but one of the things I liked about the old set up was the serendipity of finding a gem hidden in a topic I wouldn't have looked up. Now, if I am directed to look at topics that are specifically of interest, I may well miss out on the lovely nuggets I have so enjoyed. I loved the informality of the jumble of questions, and the feeling that a group of friends was putting forward ideas and advice. On the whole, I'm sorry to lose that charm of feeling part of a community of like -minded individuals for a more clinical and professional set up. I'm also a little alarmed that the site may be becoming an on line shop with a bit of editorial thrown in. All that being said, I still look forward to great articles on a variety of topics, and follow with interest my favourite contributors.

I have the craftmaster in the gray fabric and I'm not super happy with it. There were a lot of quality control issues to the point that they are remaking it for me. Also, I wasn't happy with the quality of the gray fabric (sugar shack). I would upgrade to one of the more expensive gray fabrics than the standard grays. I have the standard called sugar shack (no upgraded fabric charge). I'm getting a different fabric for the redo. The sugar shack doesn't feel good especially against dry skin and it isn't wearing well along the welting. That said, I do think the cushions will hold up better than some of the cheaper sectionals.

The craftmaster cushions are firm!!! This bothered me at first but I'm told they will soften over time and wear well. We'll see.

i'm not surprised the cushions are too soft now... they advertise their 1.8 foam as high resiliency foam... ick

i hate to say it, but both of these sectionals look cheap china made/mass produced. i am shocked to see that the first one says it's made in the US. but since they falsely advertise the 1.8 foam as high resiliency, who knows what else isn't quite true. i would say keep looking ! what area do you live in?

They are actually both made in the US, but I'm open to ideas especially if I can sit on it locally. I am in Mid-Missouri.

Yes, it is completely custom so you choose everything. But fabric grades 1-3 are the bottom of the line which gives you the baseline cost. Anything above that is as an upgraded fabric. I started with a grade 3 and am now getting a 7.

I literally could not find a single other sectional with this configuration that fit my space, not in a furniture store and not online. It was also in my price range. There are much better sectionals out there but they will be quite a bit more expensive.

YIKES... i think you can definitely do better. i hear you describing a beautiful room with beautiful floors, and these sectionals don't belong in your nice home ;)

i wish you would live closer to one of our locations, but keep in mind that we ship nationwide every week. we send out fabric swatches, so you can see and feel the fabric, and our seat cushion fills can be compared to restoration hardware fills.

I was wondering if you ever found a sectional?
Also, wondering what fabric artiesmama went with the second time?
I'm looking at the craftmaster f9. I thought it was very comfortable. I liked it beacuse it can be reclined but still had clean lines, doesn't look like the big bulky traditional style reclining sectionals. My dilemma is I can't not find a Grey I like. They all look very farmhouse/woven materials. I just wanted a simple gray. Transitional / contemporary style.
