Is a 6 metre run of kitchen too long?

This will be my new kitchen/diner/ living space; it's 6m x 5m. My intention was to have a run of 6m kitchen along the left wall (not the L shape kitchen shown in the plan) with a 2.5 m island in front but am now thinking that 6 metres is really long and might look ridiculous. Does anyone have a 6m kitchen, photos or other ideas to use the space? I don't want to make a big design mistake!

Comments (8)Helen, I really would not worry too much about weak joints. As long as the base units are fixed, firm and level, with lots of support it will be fine. Do not choose from a small granite sample, unless it is utterly consistent and uniform. I almost always/whenever possible get my clients to choose the slabs. Then rather like choosing a picture, each one is unique. If you need more than one slab, make sure it is the next in the block. Depending on the granite/marble you might find - one at 3.5 metres, but I would not worry about it. As said by others above otherwise you can go for a man-made material such as Minerva. We have recently used Carrara White Minerva a fair bit as you can make seamless joints, its cool to the touch like natural stone and looks like Carrara. Comments (37)Fiza, if you are going to rent out your home I wouldn’t fit an expensive kitchen unless your home is a large luxury home. After all tenants may not care for it the way you would. My kitchen is a 12 year old Wrens kitchen. It was fitted by my brother as Wrens didn’t do installations at that time. It’s okay, just that. Nothing special. It cost £5500 including appliances, worktop, sink etc. My sister recently had a new, fantastic quality German kitchen installed. Can’t remember the brand or the price (the quartz worktops cost £5000 alone). The difference is incredible and I think anyone will be able to see the difference immediately. Next time I will use an independent kitchen company as I have learnt they cater to all budgets, not just high end. I would like to add that Daisy has been a member of Houzz for many years and her advice has been invaluable. She has never advertised her business or pushed people to use it on this forum. We recently had a similar designed kitchen built, but with a run of 8m that is separated by a structural wall. Even though we don't follow the "golden triangle" rule, it works for us with an clean Island. I think lighting makes a huge impact to your kitchen, so be sure to plan this in also.
