Ivory/Cream wall panels

Beautiful home. Amazing choice of materials. What did you use for the ivory/cream wall panels? Hardie Panel? And if so, how did you install them? Rain screen? Screw hidden or painted over? Appreciate a response.

It is a hardipanel system. I wanted concealed fasteners but due to cost and logistics we had to settle for standard face screws per the manufacturer's pattern given the reveal and rainscreen furring strips. Fortunately, they are surprisingly difficult to see and even up close they don't detract from the panel, mostly due to the quality of the installer and the painter. Good luck with your project!

Oh, Rachelle, I'm so sorry, after all your research and planning and bravery!! Well, there's is nothing wrong with cream, but I completely understand how you wanted to climb out of that box of one colored crayons, lol. It is what it is, I do hope that you'll be able to build your pergola and I also hope you can introduce a bit of color with your door, this color is from sherwin Williams, it's SW 6480 lagoon, it would be beautiful with a cream house color and a terracotta roof. Good luck, and I'd love to see your final result, please post a picture at the end of project. And I'm glad you're upbeat and looking at the "sunny side" :)

What to do with dark oak panelled walls?

We've been faced with a similar dilemma recently and our client wanted to paint the oak panelling. I can understand the wish to brighten. As you can see in the submitted photos, painting the panelling can look attractive when handled well, but I don't think it makes the rooms look more modern. To me it makes the rooms look rather more 'Georgian' since after oak became scarce in the UK by the middle of the 18th Century, painted panelling became much more common. Then in the mid- to late 20th Century, painting over dark oak was seen as a way to escape from what was perceived as dark, gloomy and Victorian. I'd stick with my initial, less conventional advice, but it depends on the effect you're after.
