New Quartz countertops sitting on shims.
Comments (6)Like all quartz brands and also even granites they must be glue down correctly and with quartz it is silicone and no shims at all, you do not need them if the cabinets are level. First thing any installer should check with a 6" level. side to side, front to back. I can tell you know that this will void the Silestone warranty or any other manufacturers warranty, from the photos you have shown. You are correct does not matter if the floors are way out of level, the adjustments on the cabinets will take up the issues there. But sometimes it is also the legs are not weight rated for stone. They use them because the are cheap, but the flex and bow under the load of stone. The photo below is straight from the Silestone fabrication and installation manual and this is from our draft manual for one of the major manufacturers. Your stone counters do not even look like they have been stuck down into place, there is no silicone, nothing! Ps I know of two members on here that work for Silestone. They generally will pass information on....See MoreNew Quartz Countertop Destroyed?
Comments (13)I can just about see the marks that you mean, and really do sympathise, but your kitchen looks fabulous! When I get a new 'thing', i am horribly anxious until the first mark, after which I find I can relax. You have to live in the space, not maintain a showhome. My pal's husband installed a uniquely-shaped gleaming stainless steel countertop and, during the first week, while whisking a vinaigrette, she got salt under the bowl. Disaster. So, amidst much angst, husband took wire wool to the whole surface to achieve a grainy surface. Temporary disappointment followed by relaxation! Time to get out your Grayson Perry vase of peonies and open a bottle......See MoreMost practical white countertop?
Comments (5)I have solid surface worktops. Mine are Mirostone Taj Mahal. i work with kitchens. I have read the reviews that I think you could be referring to and agree with them. If you Google the colour of my worktops they are similar to a Calacatta Marble. I have had mine installed for around 4 months and I am very careful when placing items on them and also cleaning them. Yesterday we had to resort to fabricating them again so out came the sander and the dust extraction machine. We firstly attempted the peninsular top. This was done 3 times to achieve the finish I wanted and we ended up doing a wet and dry sand which shouldn’t be necessary. Then we tackled the island, sink area and the other corner. I had a long discussion with my supplier over these worktops and have told them that I consider them to be sub standard because they are China imports and not up to the usual pre Covid standard. I have a customer who had a very dark colour. She complained about them, I passed her complaint on to the same supplier I had mine from and only last week got a full refund for them. It took 8 weeks of arguing to get the money back. Even the batches were not the same colour code and this was apparent with the island. We never take the film off until fabrication is complete so were unable to see this. Mirostone is to the best of my knowledge the same or very similar to Minerva in its make up. Avoid it. I’m lucky that we can refabricate ours, not that I want to be constantly doing that, but we can to bring it back to life. We have fitted several Pietra solid worktops and have had no problems whatsoever with them, so take a look at those. They are very slightly thicker 25mm from recollection. They have proved to be very hard wearing. Charlie is right with the cleaning side of thngs. So many people use chemicals but you shouldn’t. Stick to soapy water only. Look at Pietra It’s good stuff. Here’s my worktops. Love them but am annoyed at the fabrication side of things. It’s all due to the recipe of what’s in the tops....See MoreSolid/ Resin Countertops Advice for Laundry Room
Comments (4)You just need to mop up any spillages immediately and ensure everything is sealed with laminate worktops. They are cost effective with lots of choice and still one of the best sellers. If you’re looking for a solid top try looking at Mirostone or Pietra solid surface but installation for solid tops should only be carried out by certified contractors to make sure the warranty is valid....See MoreM & I M & I
