did you use Coretec on the stair treads and risers?

If you installed LVT on the stairs, what was the underlayment? we have plywood risers - can the coretec be installed on plywood?

Hello @carolwelsh,

COREtec can be installed over plywood. However, it is recommend to review the product warranty and compare it to the job at hand.

The stairs in the photo above were glued down without underlayment.

Hi Annabel, It's a little hard to say from the Info given. It looks as though it could be a possibility to make the bottom step into a Quarter landing meaning that you would be able to access the staircase from both sides, however this does rely upon a few other aspects. I think you did a splendid job here. The dark and white woodwork is very well handled, and I like the color of the wallpaper and the stair runner. Tight spaces can be tough to manage, but you’ve done a fine job, it looks very inviting. I was particularly interested in the last photo; I have almost the exact setup in my own home, with a facing wall as you come down the stairs, and a shelf with various items on display (mine is quite the dust-catcher, I must admit). The space has always been a little dark, so I am planning to cut out an interior window, centered on the wall above the shelf, and mount a stained glass panel there. Since our guest room above it is bathed in bright southern sunlight, I am expecting a happy result. I just have to find the right window… I like the practical use you are getting from the space under the stairs, too. A perfect little spot to sit for a moment. Great job!

Normally I like a painted, period staircase, but you effectively already have a suspended staircase. Paint and live with it until you can do a glass banister properly. Treads and risers can be painted and a runner fitted. Here is the staircase in our last house (1938 semi), before and after painting. I actually changed the spindles to something more ornate! We never finished decorating so forgive he fact that the walls were bare. We unexpectedly sold the house this summer to do yet another renovation, which we are just finishing...

I agree will Ellie. Stairs with no carpet are very loud. They seem quiet popular over in the states not sure how they dampen the noise? Maybe its our narrow hallways that make the noise bounce around? 1. It depends on how well they were painted to begin with. A better paint job will mean its harder to get the paint off. Also depends on how may layers it is. Best option would be to try one and then decide if your willing to put the same amount of work in for the rest. 2. You can get a company that does custom runners for your stairs. I good carpet fitter should also be able to do it. 3. Yes that could look great, but depends on your style and the look you are going for:
