Kudos on the house. Really beautiful and smart. May I ask what you used for roofing material. Is it an adhered synthetic membrane? And how do you deal with thermal bridging ; the exterior soffit seems to flow into the building!

Comments (10)I think a flat roof with a terrace above would be amazing! Flat room materials have really moved on and such good quality now. Or you could do a flat roof with skylight or roof lanterns which will give lots of light. My sister has done this. Her extension is flat roofed and it looks really smart. Also I think if the extension is no higher than 2.5m it can come under permitted development? There are other criteria but your local council planning portal should have all the info you need. Pitched roofs would be more expensive. My garage cost £15,000 but with a pitched roof and tiles it would have been nearer £25,000 and I would have needed planning permission. Comments (0)I am building an orangery in the next few months. It measures 8.8m x 3.7m with a central glass roof lantern and a perimeter ceiling of approx 0.7m in width. I am at the stage of selecting the external roofing material that will lie on top of the perimeter ceiling area. I have been looking at a variety of materials, from plastic, rubber to metal, and there seem to be pros and cons with each. Would be very interested and grateful to hear from orangery (or flat roof building) owners or experts of their experiences and recommendations.
