Kitchen/ family space layout options
Comments (1)I think for 2 islands to work they both need to be good sizes. I think it would be worth involving a kitchen designer at this stage before you start building. It's a big space and I'm sure a pro could easily give you everything you want (and more!) I agree the space currently doesn't work well (really not sure about the position of the fridge). If you post the full floor plan you may get more comments, but my first thought would be something like this? Not to scale etc etc....See MoreKitchen Extension-Layout Options and advise
Comments (14)Is it a double Storey extension? I ask because I think it will be quite unbalanced for a 3 bed, 1 bathroom house, with too much unused living space? Or are you creating another bedroom upstairs. If not, why not just open up the whole of the back, rather than extend? To me, that amount of living space equates to a house with 5 beds, 3 bathrooms.... just my thoughts.......See MoreKitchen! Option 1 or Option 2?
Comments (37)Option 3 is the best one. If you have the tall cupboards at the back of the room it won‘t affect the amount of light into the room. The peninsula works better as it keeps the kitchen space together (i.e work triangle). When you enter the room you won’t need to go through the kitchen to get to the dining/living area. just because you have enough room for an island doesn’t mean it’s the best option!! You could have a ceiling mounted extractor fan like the ones from Luxair so it doesn’t block your sight lines into the dining room/garden/living area. I would definitely keep the stools as they are always used. The ideas for the pillar are brilliant for extra storage. I would only have base units as adding wall mounted units will make the area appear smaller. Perhaps you could put a larder cupboard in the utility room for extra food storage. Definitely have as much lighting as possible. You could have the lighting set out into zones (i.e kitchen/dining/living) so that you don’t have to have the kitchen lights on when you are all in the living area etc....See MoreHelp! Comments (0)We are in the process of extending (a joint project with our neighbours to gain an extension to the front box room, then along the ground floor across the front and down the side of the house). We're having some last-minute layout dilemmas, the floor space isn't the biggest, but we will gain some essentials from it (bigger kitchen, downstairs shower/toilet, office space, porch and the bigger box room upstairs). Our shower room is going to be fairly slim (worked out as 900x2900mm at the minute). This also creates a slim corridor space beside that leading to an office which I've bumped along a bit to give some more space (sacrificing utility space at the other end, when you compare my Ikea layout with original drawings). The other option is to access the office from the lounge, meaning we could lose the corridor altogether and widen the shower room, but that would make the office open to noise from the lounge and I think it's a weird place to add a door. We're also struggling with options for the laundry/utility space too and whether to just include it as an extension to the kitchen. I've added some screenshots and links to an Ikea planner I used to map the ground floor out completely (ignore the colour and the basic mapping of furniture etc. it also doesn't include the pitched roof and Velux windows). Any input would be appreciated, I'm just looking for layout ideas and tips for anyone that has similar sizing/spacing set-ups. Thanks.
