I've always gone with hinged doors since I scared my clothes could get snagged on the runners (I'm probably being over cautious) and I like to be able to see all my clothes at once so I can figure out an outfit.

Thanks everyone for your comments, much appreciated. I do not know what the wardrobes are made of, but they're certainly not wood. There is hardly any gap between the bed and the sides of the wardrobe. The bedroom is quite small, so I can't really move the bed to another part of the room. I think I shall try either painting the doors (maybe such a special paint exists?!) and putting on new handles, or having the actual doors and handles replaced. Yes, they do look very very dated, but I like the fact that lots of stuff can be stored inside (even in the top cupboards, which add to the old fashioned look of the wardrobes). Thanks again.

Due to design of room they won't ever be moving, guess just worried about the clearance with the sliding doors if did carpet after as watching youtube videos looks really tight if had thick underlay and thick carpet, thanks for replies

We have these bifold doors in our bedroom and I want to upgrade. I find these times of doors allow dust inside due to gaps all round and particularly at the bottom. What can I do? The top part of the wardrobe is challenging to access fully due to the panelling. Would you rip out and have floor to ceiling doors? I can't have swing doors as not enough space. Please help!
