I'm lost! Please help with my kitchen.
Comments (544)Hello Amanda, : )) Do you mean in the kitchen? Yes a nice idea. I like flat plate too, but really plain. Well the best way to describe how I feel about certain alterations is to tell you about someone I knew who "did up" her flat to such a degree that she literally took away all that was characterful about it.. Sometimes it's best to leave things as their patina develops over time and results in something quite special. Restoration is one thing but you can also restore the life out of something and thus diminish in certain contexts the value- and so it's good to know when to stop.. So yes, I'm firmly in the camp suggesting leave them, but of course it's entirely your choice. : ))...See MoreMy new kitchen
Comments (27)Hi Lynda, It's a shame that you don't love your kitchen, but I can see why. It doesn't mesh together. You've combined stark, modern black and white gloss units with a more rustic brown/grey slate effect floor. The walls are broken up by boxy units, a green wall and a wall papered in a small black and white design. First, despite the expense, I'd change the floor to a light oak to go with the eating area. Remove the wallpaper and introduce something large, round and inclusive of some green. Perhaps a large clock like this one from Vintage Watches Newgate Cookhouse Wall Clock Kettle Green - COOK343KG may interest you. http://www.watchandjewellery.co.uk/featured-clocks/newgate-coookhouse-wall-clock.html. Finally, hang a pendant light in green over the eating area. Try https://www.estoreuk.com/aerial-pendant-light-e27-edison-screw-60-watt-yellow-red-lime-green-purple-new in green. If you don't want all green touches to your kitchen, introduce a combination of green, lime green and yellow through your wine rack, canisters and textiles....See MoreDoes island kitchen layout work?
Comments (9)Thanks everyone for the helpful comments :) I probably should've explained that we have a separate lounge diner with a large table and chairs, so we want the table/seating in the kitchen to feel more relaxed and only for 4 people (but don't want it breakfast bar height). And in terms of the prep space I was thinking we would use the space next to the sink, immediately behind the hob - but maybe that wouldn't be practical? Our current hob is actually where you suggested J but I hate it there as when I'm chopping and cooking I've got my back to everyone sat at the table. We were hoping to create a combined space rather than have very distinct areas of kitchen and table, which it is currently. I quite like your alternative idea Jonathan, it's similar to the other option we're considering (but the hob and sink are swapped over)....See MoreOpen plan living - feels cold!
Comments (12)Have you thought about painting the tv wall? It might make the space appear smaller and more cosy. your sofas look grey so sticking with a light grey colour on the whole wall would tie your sitting room together (possible picture rail/coving around room at the height of your door frame, can’t remember the term used) the x on your wall with the picture - maybe adding a few small mirrors vertical might look nice? The Range or Dunelm have some nice ones...See MoreUser
