Geometric Wall? Yay or nay? Colours? HELP :(

Hi!

I need help.

Just moved into my house and there is an hideous wallpaper up in my living room that I am dying to rip off ASAP. (See pic)

I currently have a brown leather couch with grey pillow and blankets, cream-ish carpet... (photo attached)...

I ideally wanted grey walls. Would this go with browns? Also, the hideous wall paper is on the entire wall of the chimney breast, but I would like to do DIY geometric painting on this whole entire wall (not just the chimney breast)

My questions are:

1) would you just do the chimney breast or the whole wall?

2) if whole, is it easy with all the corners etc?

4) the fire place is an eye sore too! However, a new fire is not on the agenda at the moment due to money. Is there anything I can do to spruce it up for now?

3) should I have grey walls all around and then the geometric wall more creams with greys? What colours would you suggest? Photos appreciated!!! :) :) :)

I went a bit bonkers with a wall in my first place in the first few weeks of moving and wish I'd waited. I'd say go for a grey-tint coloured wall (can't tell if the room is very light or a darker room), or darker if you think the room can handle it. Leave it there for a while before trying something too bold. You could always DIY a geometric print as a large canvas/ couple of canvases? I've put alcove cupboards in either side of the fire place and put tv/books/photo albums and some bits and pieces up and it's brought so much colour to the room that I'm glad I didn't go hard in the colour. Will just be looking for some art for another wall. Also got a giant mirror in a lovely colour above the fire place.

Yeah good idea on the canvases Claire! I'm sure they will put me on instead of going crazy on the walls just yet. Thank you.

The rest of the room is just magnolia at the moment. So not sure whether to do a grey all around and maybe a different colour on the chimney breast? In my head, I just can't put grey with the colour of my sofas and carpet. But I'm not due a new sofa just yet :( but I really want greys! I have tried the Dulux app that enables you to take photos of your room and paint the walls. But it doesn't work on the wallpapered wall due to the pattern. Too many decisions!

I never understood why people don't build their conservatory for year round use. It's all about light and heat control. Automatic sun reflective shades along the roof windows will keep the room from overheating in the summer and even help keep it warm in the winter. Proper wall and ceiling insulation, double or gas permeated triple glazing will keep it comfortable year around with the right heating. Add a wee wood stove in a corner with a simply pipe chimney and you have yourself a lovely winter sun room to brighten your cold winter days. If you live where there is snow, even better. It'll feel like a wee slice of paradise.

Inside a house you can change the paint colour easily when trends change. But there is a trend for grey window frames- sometimes it sits badly on houses (particularly those with plainer fronts or dark brick) so you have to be careful. Also wood windows can be repainted but this is not so easy with UPVC and I worry that the grey plastic windows fitted today could be a desirable in the future as the previous trend for mahogany coloured windows.

I have always loved this look. I screams Parisian to me, though I don't know why. I've just bought a new build so have to do all the flooring and my current dilemma is whether or not to do just the entrance and hallway or the whole ground floor in herringbone. Maybe that's a poll question later! :)

Oops, didn't mean to vote for the Caruso sideboard! lol. Thought it was a vote of yay/nay to each one, doh! not keen on pink unless it's a shell or blush pink. I do like a bit of raspberry in places though here and there! Probably the drinks trolley is the least offensive...
