POLL: Conservatories and garden rooms - yay or nay?
Comments (121)I never understood why people don't build their conservatory for year round use. It's all about light and heat control. Automatic sun reflective shades along the roof windows will keep the room from overheating in the summer and even help keep it warm in the winter. Proper wall and ceiling insulation, double or gas permeated triple glazing will keep it comfortable year around with the right heating. Add a wee wood stove in a corner with a simply pipe chimney and you have yourself a lovely winter sun room to brighten your cold winter days. If you live where there is snow, even better. It'll feel like a wee slice of paradise....See MorePOLL: Monochrome - yay or nay?
Comments (22)@Tom Flanagan - thank you! It is my last two homes / projects. I went from Regency mansion flat renovation to 1960's tower block for the view. But, Oh what a view! When I have finished the refurb I will put pics on the website and/ or in my Case Studies eBooks: www.mendinghouses.com. If you sign up for the newsletter I can let you know when each of the books comes out (there are 10 or so in the making - 30 years of doing up property!). Thanks again for the compliment! Comments (3)Is the question about if the gold frame works with the grey walls- if so the answer is yes as long as there are other gold things in the room. (in fact if everything is silver and grey it can look cold -IMO) If the question is does this look best hung or stood on the mantle- I think that is down to personal taste- I would hang it....See MoreGeometric Wall? Yay or nay? Colours? HELP :(
Comments (2)I went a bit bonkers with a wall in my first place in the first few weeks of moving and wish I'd waited. I'd say go for a grey-tint coloured wall (can't tell if the room is very light or a darker room), or darker if you think the room can handle it. Leave it there for a while before trying something too bold. You could always DIY a geometric print as a large canvas/ couple of canvases? I've put alcove cupboards in either side of the fire place and put tv/books/photo albums and some bits and pieces up and it's brought so much colour to the room that I'm glad I didn't go hard in the colour. Will just be looking for some art for another wall. Also got a giant mirror in a lovely colour above the fire place....See MoreKerry Donnelly
