Make our living room WOW

Hi All. I’m wanting to make a few changes to our living room to give it that WOW feeling. I was thinking a rug in TV area, but any ideas on what colours etc? Also should I paint the wall behind the dining table the same colour as the curtains, plus the wall behind the curtains that colour too? I want to maybe get a mirror where the three pictures are to reflect the light from the window, hoping it would make the room feel lighter as it’s north facing so very dark. Should we paint the wall that the TV is on?
Any ideas are welcome. Thank you!
PS: we do want a new sofa too!!!
