Inspiration needed for Victorian Lounge - paint colours
Comments (11)Hello Melissa, Oooh Lovely! Lucky you! For colours I'd suggest chalky matt for walls. Either keeping it light with stone and light greys... OR going to darks......For the ceiling Whitening by Little Greene works beautifully... Then pick out all the wood work - This can either be light or it can be dark and contrasting to compliment the wall colours.. Do the section between picture rail and cornice the same as the ceiling and then do a flat eggshell on the woodwork.. I actually mix my own paint to get a flat chalky finish here too on all my woodwork. I have not done the floor like this as it has quite a lot of traffic..and I have moved things round.. Hope you have floorboards underneath.. Would you consider painting these too?... Works beautifully actually and also darker colours to compliment the walls... You could also paint the doors a really fabulous chalky charcoal and add some brassy and glass handles.. Is there a fireplace? Would be lovely to get a look at that too... Then consider some fantastic modern furnishings... A few ideas below... : ))...See MoreNeed advice for my lounge

Comments (7)Agree with Carolina, however, i'd go for something that will cover as much of it as possible. You can't go wrong with plain, it can't clash with anything. Whatever portion of the flooring is visible will clash with anything that has a pattern. So plain grey, pale beige, dark cream, or even a dark brown to tie in with the wood colour. You don't necessarily need to search for a rug the right size, most carpet shops especially the independants, and many on line can make rugs from any carpet....See MoreAdvice needed re. decorating small lounge connected to dining room
Comments (12)hi Carolina, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me and love your ideas. I should have added more detail but you managed to visualize the layout quite closely. Actually, no door in dining area , only access thru sitting room. Love the area rug and have Macys one which will work perfectly - might pull a greyish -blue color from rug for walls maybe similar to the example you provided. Also have two mid-century style floor lamps which I can use. I really like the idea of a mural as the Wow - only concern is that radiator is on that wall. Do you think I could work around that somehow? Shelving will work perfectly - I was thinking something from Ikea or JLewis. Agree that blind is better and like curtains on patio door side. I am really hooked on the mural suggestion . Thanks and I will post a updated photo to show you the final result when we get everything done -hopefully by Dec. -especially now that I have something to show 'the main man'. I am really excited about getting this going!!!Regards eithne...See Morebebeblubelle
