Decorator for just touch ups

After a length delay my builders have just completed a house refurb project. I am slightly disappointed with the quality of finish and because it has been delayed so much I was thinking of getting other decorators in to do the touch ups. This would be things like caulking, sealing, sanding around the edges and around switches/sockets etc.

The property is a 4 bed 1930s terraced home in London but what kind of prices would you expect a decorator to charge for this? I

If it's just touch ups, I'd like to think they would just charge by the hour. I'm not entirely sure on rates in London but It shouldn't be much.

Get a few decorators in so you know what your paying is a decent amount.

Why are you not getting them back to finish the job properly? If they aren't willing to do the snagging list then surely you should be due a partial refund as it's not technically finished??

Round here ( Hertfordshire ) it's £200 + per day roughly. I see no reason why it would not be the same where you are. Decorators like a lot of trade are in high demand from the flock out of london ( here ) and the amount of people currently doing extensions and refurbs.

There's more work than you can shake a stick at currently, hence it isn't cheap.

One word of advice however, and I see it happen a lot................if people aren't booked up at least a month or more in advance, then they probably do not have a lot of work on. That should be troubling as good workers will always be very busy and booked up.

Hello again all and sorry for the delay! i have now got a throw and started to extend my gallery over the corner. I grabbed an old chair and rug that were kicking about in my parents' garage and put them in the corner to give me some idea of what i want. actually, i kinda like the beat-up chair but i don't think the rug looks right. is it too small? Now i have the reddish throw (LOVE it... from the Avoca shop in Belfast - amazing place, if you are ever in Belfast do go!!) I am actually considering replacing my blind because i prefer red tones to the turquoise. Just not sure what I would get instead? Still need a fab lamp and more cushions but wisdom says wait for the January sales! I still think I need something more eyecatching on my vanity too... Considering a map above my bed but I don't know if it would compete with the gallery wall too much? have to say i do love the "hello" sign!

Decorations for me are progressive. Advent candles on advent sunday naturally, then as the weeks go by I add more. Christmas village, nativity scene, lots of quilted wall hangings, porcelain christmas bells on a special wire feame tree. Lots of lights in the windows and outside. Finally fresh flowers and table decorations on christmas eve. Taking them down is just as good. Everything gradual until nativity scene last and lights in windows not until Candlemas

Beautiful bathroom! Love your floor tiles. Our bathroom (mainly bathstore too!) was just finished a week and half ago in a black/white/grey colour scheme, a mix of classical and contemporary styles. I agree with what others have suggested about adding colour with plants (orchids maybe?), towels, bath mat and pictures but have you thought about painting the mirror cabinet unit? Annie Sloan chalk paint is great as coverage is good and no priming is required. Also colourful bottles of bath and shower gels, shampoo and conditioners can liven up a bathroom. Molten brown stuff or even decanting into ornate glass or ceramic bottles can add a touch of glamour to your bathroom.

This might sound a bit oddball but how about a vintage tall corner cabinet for storing towels, bottles, etc. Just think that if you went with a small cabinet you’d have the same issues that you’re having now. There are lots of styles which you can pick up second hand for next to nothing and you could paint or varnish to how you want (this is just an example: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rustic-Tall-Corner-Cabinet-Shabby-Chic/253999560281?hash=item3b238db659:g:dasAAOSwRhFbo1mG ). I initially thought of wallpaper but think it will look too busy all over, how about getting a sample and putting into a frame for artwork. I saw this pattern (see pics) and thought it would look great with your decor, thinks it’s called Flying ducks by Mulberry. Also added a pic with idea for mirror over the sink. Hello Raiyan it's a shame that your builders did not deliver on a high-quality finish. With lengthy jobs, some builders can lose pace and passion on a project but not all. In our practice, we offer homeowners a final works form to complete with the builder which is signed by both parties to agree to certain dates when the snagging will be completed to satisfaction. In this instance, however, I think that if you try hard enough you will be able to find a passionate decorator that cannot stand a poor finish and would want to improve it. Make sure you have the full list for them and that your satisfied that you wouldn't find anymore once they have committed then that way they can easily measure the amount of time it will take to do it and can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
