This or that - wooden floors or carpet?
Comments (30)Carpet for sure! As champions of carpet, here’s our top five reasons why you should have it in the home: 1. It’s warm – When the mornings are cold, nothing beats the feel of a soft and snuggly carpet on icy toes. Coming in to a warm and welcoming house is the pinnacle of luxury. More people are now turning their back on the cool, sleek look of laminate flooring, for the natural warmth of carpet. Home owners are realising that in rooms such as the lounge, bedrooms and hallway, carpet really is the only option. 2. It’s easy to clean – While you do need to whip the vacuum cleaner over your carpet, there is little other maintenance compared to the upkeep of hard wood floors or laminates. And if you buy one of our easy clean ranges (Sensation, Apollo and Primo collections), cleaning becomes less of a chore - plus you have the added reassurance of a 10 year stain and wear warranty. The key to good carpet maintenance is to vacuum once or twice a week, use a large doormat and avoid laying light coloured carpets next to external entrances. 3. It’s quieter – Forget footsteps clacking against wooden floors, a large surround sound system vibrating or noisy children playing upstairs, one of the major benefits of having carpet in the home is that it absorbs sound. Not only does carpet absorb up to 10 times more sound than hard flooring but it generates less too. 4. It’s good for allergies – Over the decades studies have shown that carpet reduces the number of allergens in the air as compared to hard flooring. Carpet prevents allergens from becoming airborne by trapping them in the fibres of the carpet, helping to keep them out of the air and out of your lungs. Vacuuming the carpet then removes the trapped allergens completely. 5. There’s more choice – Carpet is super versatile. Fancy a more rustic look, opt for a textured loop pile. Want a deep snuggly pile, seek the super soft lustrous carpets out. And when it comes to colour, you can choose to play it safe with neutrals and cool greys or be bold with dark statement inky blues or even stripes! Any style you want to achieve can be done with carpet. Comments (10)Hi Ann, you most certainly can! We think it makes a lovely design statement. Halls and stairs are great spots to introduce personal style and you can afford to be bold in your interior choices. If your hallway and staircase is a wide, open and airy space, why not let a striped carpet take centre stage. Cormar’s Avebury collection, pictured below, is made from 100% pure new wool comes in either a neat, level loop pile or a textured loop pile and offers four tonal striped designs and eight plain, stylish shades: https://www.cormarcarpets.co.uk/product_avebury/product_avebury.php. A bold carpet colour might be overpowering in a large living room but can look at home on a staircase. Experiment with a deep homely purple (Cormar’s Sensation Twist in Wild Cherry) or a charcoal grey shade to add a pop of style. Complement with lots of white or cream woodwork to keep the look simple and sophisticated. https://www.cormarcarpets.co.uk/product_sensationtwist/product_sensationtwist.php Let us know what you decide to go with!...See Moreflooring ? - carpet , wood, tiles , laminate against a stripe carpet
Comments (8)Hi Simone, We can't help but love parquet in a hallway and feel it would work well with the traditional look of your carpet and stairs. What colours are your surrounding wood floors? You're right that parquet wood floors have a mix of tones which could help the hallway to blend more seamlessly with the others. Comments (8)Thanks so much everyone for your advice I really appreciate your replies. T. Willow I love that herringbone pattern too I love herringbone. I should probably have said we have 4 children under 7 so if we are going with wool needs to be practical as poss to hide stains which we thought stripe might manage. Daisy do you mind me asking what colour paint you have on the walls with this carpet? We have Dimity in master and it’s far too brown. Thanks. Thanks Angie good to know it can look really good, maybe I just need to be bit brave and go for it! Thanks everyone x...See MoreCarolina
