What colour blinds?
Comments (16)I would personally go for the aubergine velvet (thrid from right) with either a central 10cm wide horizontal stripe in the bronze silk (second from left) or with a 15cm wide band of the bronze silk at the bottom. - or both - just a thought! It would lend colour and texture and you could repeat it on a couple of large cushions, then have a slightely smaller couple in augbergine and a slightly smaller still couple in the bronze silk. Good luck!...See MoreDoors - To blind or not to blind?
Comments (7)Hi Isidora Markovic Thank you for the images. I see what you mean - shutters could work. My concern about no door dressing is being seen when we're in the rooms at night with the lights on. Also for security reasons when away on holiday. We are in the countryside so the only night time lighting is from motion sensored security lighting fixed to the outside of my neighbours detached houses either side - sited some 10m and 20m respectively. One opening is south facing and the other south west, so I need to factor in being able to reduce sunlight. I think I'll research shutters. I have had them before in a previous house but they were chunky to suit the age of the house. Maybe there are slim line versions on the market now....See MoreCurtains, blinds or shutters?
Comments (8)Whatever you do, do not have pure silk curtains, unless you are prepared to fit a blind as well. I made the mistake of buying silk curtains from Laura Ashley five years ago and they have started to fray at the edges. I do blame myself as I knew silk was not as durable as synthetic but I fell for them and hoped by having them lined and interlined they would be ok. I was wrong, as they are in a bedroom with great views I really didn't want to fit a blind as well. I am going to have to now and have the curtains repaired, by putting an edge on them in a different colour, they were far too expensive to change for new curtains as the window is very wide and the curtains are floor length, plus, they look good in the room, apart from the fact they are fraying! To start with I might just swop the curtains over, rather than have them altered, but I am certainly having a roller blind fitted, it will have to be plain white and in use when nobody is staying, luckily the bedroom is a guest room....See MoreFinding blinds for dome skylight
Comments (3)I have three of these in a loft--side-by-side and quite large. Besides the summer sun baking in, my furniture was beginning to fade. The cost of blinds was pretty steep, so I opted to use light-cream drapery panels with a rod pocket sewn into both ends and thin tension rods to hold them taut. Works like a charm! I still have plenty of light--a softer, diffused light. And the light fabric reflects most of the heat. Plus, the UV damage has stopped. Another bonus--the fabric acts as an insulator in winter so there's much less radiant cold off the glass. A win-win, and the whole arrangement cost less than $100....See More- 6 years ago
