Unit design - how would you do this please...
Comments (19)The frames look kind of squished on some of the shelves, but don't worry about that now. I'm not a big fan of stuff on the top of the tall unit nor how much you have on top of the short unit. I think if you remove the things from the top of the taller one, you'll like it much better. Then, put only one or three things on each shelf, and layer some. For example: put a couple of candles in front of a framed photo -- give it some depth. The shelf unit is dark, so you might want to keep your ornaments, etc. a lighter colour....See MoreHow do I make this space work?
Comments (2)Hi. I think it's a great idea. Depending on what you want there could be a few options. Maybe a 9ft L shaped kitchen starting near the dividing wall and finishing at the store. You could then have a narrow table with bench seating positioned against the firewall with a chair or a small love seat in the bottom left corner. Or if you wanted informal dining you could try a bench like the one attached with just a small sofa on the left wall. Or if you wanted a bigger kitchen try someing like the attached but with shorter units for your patio door and a round table at the other end (the image is from bhg and the room is 9x15 for reference). It definitely helps if the washing machine can be elsewhere and I would try to maximise storage by taking cabinets to the ceiling...See Morekitchen layout isn't working - please help!!
Comments (11)Thanks everyone for the very helpful comments and supporting pictures indeed! Some really great suggestions, thank you. The design is from Howdens joinery so it is pretty standard, and very basic and yes they've just basically ticked boxes! I will explore Kulman's kitchens at Costcos (I'm based in north east London so relatively close to one). Cost for the proposed kitchen is coming around to more than £2k, I'm not sure if this is good value (I'm told it is - I'm a first time buyer so lack experience here!) I like the idea of using dummy drawer fronts and will ask if these are available for below the sink. Space wise the room is 4.8m wide and 3.8m depth. They've done all the electrics and stuff so it looks like the kitchen will be best placed on the left. But I don't know if it is the best use of the space. I think having a peninsular run coming off the main wall (between the window and French doors) is something I will consider. Unfortunately budget is rather limited, so I wish I had asked sooner before getting my windows. I've been given a (new) washing machine and a (new) fridge as gifts and unfortunately neither are the right sizes to be properly integrated, so this isn't possible which is a big shame as they really do look out of place. However, I am glad I can at least change the colours of the worktops - I like the idea of using a light grey colour, and think this will improve the overall look. Thanks all again, I'm going to have to ponder further!...See Moreshould all tall units in kitchen be the same ie 60cm?
Comments (13)Thanks Jonathan. Not sure I can cluster the units now as the ducting for my hob has gone down under the floor and so my island now has to be placed centrally to the back wall. This may look odd if cluster the tall units? Agree with the 500 option thou. I need to see if they come as standard from my kitchen supplier. Do you think a 3m island will be too large in front of this run? Thanks Lara...See Morepc re
