Construction of higher bar wall

What is the construction of the bar counter wall? Is it a pony wall with the cabinet wood panels? It doesn't appear to be too thick like a 2" x 4" stud pony wall is. Thanks for the information!

You are correct. Adding a 2x4 wall allows for solid structure for the bar as well as a place to run electrical for plugs on the counter side. It is then finished with cabinetry panels. Thanks for looking.

Thanks all. Sorry it wasn't very clear before. I started mid through my renovation sentence as opposed to the full sentence! Whoops! Thanks for your input thus far. I've attached more photos which should hopefully give a proper visual. As Karen at One Plan (who are FYI amazing and downright beyond talented) rightly said it is a walk way so nothing protruding out is a viable option for the space. We're not sure what to do with the wall, hang photos, one off statement, hidden door, visual door, standard doors for the wine nook and something else wow on the wall? It's a big space and central to the rooms movement do something cool and stylish and modern but workable. We just want what looks Amazing! Has a cool wow factor but practical. My other half was thinking a sliding door too Karen but I thought it may restrict walking space when it was open? Please give us your best design suggestion. We don't have any creative bones in us.

Have a really level headed think about this: as a focal point it's the first thing you and everyone else is going to see the moment they walk into the room. (Mother-in-law springs to mind!) If your tv is your most valuable asset, then go ahead and make a feature of it! If not, then play about with alternatives: a picture, bookshelves, wall art, a couple of sconces either side of the fireplace. Having looked again at your photo, it is tricky. I always seek to hide my tv, preferably in a cupboard but that's because I'm not very technical. Perhaps a cubby hole chiselled into the wall over the fireplace, hidden by a picture!

From what i'm reading, I think you have only two choices on actual brick walls. The one with the cooker is an outside wall isn't it?? .....and then the one with the clock. Totally depends on how much work you want to make for yourself. If you just want to 'dip a toe', then go for the one with the clock. If you want to go all out then do the one with the cooker and hob. However..........and we have done a few of these now........that is Victorian houses...........Lyme plaster is a pain to work with!. Once you touch one bit 10 minutes later you've got a patch 3'x3', then you get bits that feel like they're welded on! Also, we have found on many of the houses that we have done full renovations on, the Victorians were fond of an 'anything goes' brick size approach! So be prepared to unearth allsorts and more importantly, be prepared to have to re-point most , if not all of the brickwork with Lyme mortar and then seal it! It isn't for the feint hearted. Here's an old Chimney breast that we did a few years ago in an Attic Bedroom. ( Before and After ) and finally ones on a Chimney breast from a different house. That's me in the photo !!! Have fun

Happy Sunday everyone! What a difference a week makes... we’ve had time to review, scribble, calculate, visit another kitchen designer AND spend 10 hours in London looking at appliances, flooring, tiles and island lighting... whew! Oliver, thank you. Your sketches helped us lift our expectations above what was being offered by what I thought were the affordable brands (still £2-3k higher than expected, cabinets only). I think we’ll keep the wine cooler on the outside of the island, as that’s where wine glasses will be stored, and where DH will be getting drinks (I really don’t like having anyone on the working side of the island when I’m working - it’s quite odd...) Given our new view on the cost of our preferred appliances, we are now weighing the pros and cons of integrated vs free-standing fridge /freezers, in that the price of the appliances are about the same, but the extra cabinets do add up. I prefer the integrated look, but I think I might prefer the freestanding in action. These options are shown below. (Don’t get excited about the living room - it doesn’t look like that!) Speaking of extra cabinets, the new lady has come up with quite a snazzy upper layout that is just enough to hide the hood (DH has come round to a canopy hood :). Will keep you posted. Thoughts welcome. Have a great week!
