This handrail support is missing the plate to attach to the wall

I purchased these to support the handrail for the stairs, but there is no plate to fix to the wall. What am I missing as to how to make these work?

Thanks everyone. I think we are going to extend the hallway into the utility as this is the cheapest option and the utility needs doing anyway. We are going to remove some of the cupboards, so that the pushchair can go in the space created and move the sofa to block the playroom door... then we can test it out for a few weeks. I've reorganised the kitchen cupboards, moved the microwave and the plates etc and its made a big difference already to how the kitchen feels. Feeling positive :)

We chose to put our sink in our island as it was the best place for it. Our island is very long so it can accommodate the sink on one end with a clear space on the other end for seating - I am personally very against having a hob in the island as it will send splatters of hot oil etc. across the island and people (kids) sitting there. I also think the current trend for open shelves is odd - I always think they just end up looking cluttered (beyond the perfected curated pages of houzz), and everything will get dusty and oily if near the hob. One thing that we did in our kitchen was include a defined tiled area around the island - I love it and everyone comments on it. It may help add that little bit of extra in your design. (please ignore 1) our bar stools - we still need to get 2 more! and 2) the hole on the left where our broken wine fridge is waiting to be replaced!)

As others have noted, it is absolutely stunning! So i am firmly in the no paint camp....I think I read a suggestion to see if you can lighten the feel by first changing the wall color in the side cupboards and see if changing the glass to plate glass - so agree! You could always take this as a first step and see how this changes things before going the full paintout path.

Wallpaper & Picture rail. Whats the general consensus?

The classic way is to wallpaper up to the picture rail and then paint above the picture rail the same as the ceiling, so white or whatever colour will suit. The picture rail height looks just right. If this is a period house it would be a shame to remove it. This is a picture of my living room - green up to the picture rail then white above.
