help with kitchen layout
Comments (2)Hi Samantha, we would recommend an L shaped kitchen with a peninsula around one of the columns (next to the new window). This will allow for a lot of free movement space and will create a social space that will see a lot of light....See Moreneed help with kitchen layout - kitchen units deeper than window edge
Comments (13)I think that you need to leave a wider gap, 30cm is not wide and I think it will look like what it is, ie stopping the units so they don't get in the way of the french doors. I would go with a 60-80cm gap and make a useful feature out of it with floor to ceiling shelving. I've found a picture showing some shelving stepped back from regular depth units, so you get an idea. Another option is to use a rounded base unit if you like them and maybe put a stool or plant in the gap....See MoreKitchen wall - cabinet layout quandary
Comments (16)Happy Sunday everyone! What a difference a week makes... we’ve had time to review, scribble, calculate, visit another kitchen designer AND spend 10 hours in London looking at appliances, flooring, tiles and island lighting... whew! Oliver, thank you. Your sketches helped us lift our expectations above what was being offered by what I thought were the affordable brands (still £2-3k higher than expected, cabinets only). I think we’ll keep the wine cooler on the outside of the island, as that’s where wine glasses will be stored, and where DH will be getting drinks (I really don’t like having anyone on the working side of the island when I’m working - it’s quite odd...) Given our new view on the cost of our preferred appliances, we are now weighing the pros and cons of integrated vs free-standing fridge /freezers, in that the price of the appliances are about the same, but the extra cabinets do add up. I prefer the integrated look, but I think I might prefer the freestanding in action. These options are shown below. (Don’t get excited about the living room - it doesn’t look like that!) Speaking of extra cabinets, the new lady has come up with quite a snazzy upper layout that is just enough to hide the hood (DH has come round to a canopy hood :). Will keep you posted. Thoughts welcome. Have a great week!...See MoreFinal Kitchen layout, any suggestions on how to improve it?
Comments (17)Okay, so here are my concerns with the current layout: with no space to the other side of the sink, where will the dirty/clean dishes go. In our house, we put dirty dishes on one side and when unloading the dishwasher, put stuff that still needs to be dried off on the other side. But you may well have another system of loading/unloading. Also, items that can't go into the dishwasher need to be somewhere when dirty and then put somewhere when clean. So, in my experience a sink needs counterspace on two sides. You do need somewhere to put appliances, like the toaster/kettle, coffee machine or maybe a stand mixer? If they are behind doors that aren't pocket doors, you'll be working in a 'confined space', which doesn't seem very practical. I've been through the whole thought process recently and we've decided to do without doors in front of the breakfast counter. Very happy with that decision. I'll post pics so you can see how it looks. We also have kitchen doors that lead to the pantry behind the tall bank of cupboards. We've put the ovens above each other, because one oven we already had and the other one is new and a slightly different design. This left space for two pull out larders, one either side of the ovens. Then we have a tall freezer, tall fridge, double doors to the pantry. We also have a separate coffee corner. Hope this helps....See Morenuppal
