6 years agoWe thought about putting a TV there... It's just that if we put a couch on the opposite wall... It would very far from the TV... This is how we had are old couch set up. There was still a good amount of room on the other side of our or decently large sectional

Comments (4)It does look tricky! One thing could be to lose that awkward corner with the tables and lamps and instead put in a large corner sofa and coffee table. You could perhaps then lose the need for the other side tables. Comments (8)Where are your power points? The vast radiator covers seems the natural centre of the room to refocus the interest, so reorganise around that point with TV flat on wall. Conversation sofas either side could balance the room and make it more intimate or placing an L/corner sofa parallel to the existing radiator could provide you with a frame if the access to other rooms fron the front door is through this room. Currently all furnishing are pushed into the corners. You can easily move some power points and sky points and conceal the cables. Reinstating a fire place if the chimney brest has been removed can be a big job. You will be restricted to an alternative heating source, so any solid fuel burner could be expensive without an existing flue/chimney. Comments (5)I have created a floor plan with measurements (hope the picture is clear). The room is 6.97 x 4m, the entrance door is a little inside, so the room is not a perfect rectangle. There is a window (1.5m), a fireplace next to it (1.4m) and a sliding door leading to the garden (2.25m) The sofa we have is a corner sofa plus a 3 seater, in total it is 4.11x2.84m. We can replace the sofas in future. But not immediately. The book case is movable (they are ikea book cases). We are thinking of making the wall with book case, into a TV wall unit (so tv will move from corner to centre of that wall). The TV is 65inch, so wouldn't fit above the fire place and even if it did the distance between sofa and TV would be very less....See MoreHelp with living room layout

6 years agoAgree with felizlady that a sectional is a mistake.
They are big and bulky. No one wants to be wedged in the corners, they are not versatile and can rarely be rearranged or fit into other rooms or houses.
Regarding your tv, do you have a wall large enough for a television facing the windows?
if so, you can put your sofa on the window wall, and mount your TV on the wall facing the sofa, or put the TY on an entertainment unit.
Go to the hardware store to get the appropriate window film to cut down on heat and glare and UV light transmission through your windows, that will help in viewing the televison and reduce fading of your furniture and carpets.
You will of course want to get curtains anyway called "blackout." They do not need to be a dark color.
A style sofa that would work well is the tuxedo style-
Your black leather chair and it's foot rest could go perpendicular to the sofa on either side.
If you can afford to replace your current coffee table, you can get something in glass to show off your marvelous carpet.
Throw pillows in cream, red and black that go with your marvelous carpet would look great.
You can get a large live green floor plant like an areca palm, a kentia palm, or a monstera deliciosa.
If you don't have any sort of office, at the other end of the room, you could put up some bookshelves and a nice writing desk, one that doesn't look too utilitarian, but maybe one made out of wood, unless your style is mid-century modern, in which case go for something metal that is vintage looking.

6 years agoThanks for all the suggestions. I had purchased a sectional last week because I really liked how comfortable and durable it was (it's a pet friendly home with 2 dogs and cats )... They delivered it today... And I do still really like it... So I might table the TV dilemma for now. The listing described this room as the living room and the room that the kitchen overlooks as the family room. So it's likely that this room was not designed with a TV in mind The fireplace faces the kitchen which is kind of weird. Either way, I would still love some advice on coordinating the new furniture with the color scheme. I really like the rug, but can part with it if needed to put together a more cohesive look. I would like an art piece to cover that wall over the sectional.

6 years agoAwesome thanks. I posted it on my social media and one of my friends offered to make me a custom painting... I'm a veterinarian and she specializes in wildlife and animal paintings... She painted me a portrait of my poodles for Christmas and she offered to do a large “family portrait". I think I'll go this route for sentimental reasons. She also can do abstract, landscape etc. So I think I will ask her to coordinate the background colors with the rug and couch.
