Ahahah! Nowhere near an artist... but I used to score good marks at technical drawings at school! Thank you so much for the floor plans! They are giving me good points to think about! Currently the other half of the island hides an under the counter fridge. However I would prefer not to have a power outlet there... I don't like the idea to drill a hole in the new floor :) Just in case I decide to get rid of the island in future. Also... I have bad news... today the heater engineer told me that the boiler can't be moved into the eaves storage: there isn't enough space. However he came up with a different idea: move it on to the small wall between the stairs and the sink. Ideally I would hide it behind a kitchen cabinet... but I don't plan to get a custom build kitchen... they are just too expensive. So... I can't have a bespoke cabinet. My idea then is to build a short wall there and hide the boiler behind it. If you look at my drawings, you'll see that the wall there is larger than in the original photos... Unfortunately it means that i won't be able to accomodate the refrigerated drawers that you suggested, sorry. I'd like to get rid of the island... unfortunately without it I won't have enough space for all the cabinets and appliances. BTW... I really like your plans! I need to work out how to implement your ideas taking into consideration some of the constrains of the space available.

Hello Claudia, Speaking from an art on walls point of view, I'm loving the challenge, so I present a few choice pieces for the wall above your two armchairs that I think will be a happy compliment to your existing decor and furnishings: As regards the picture above your piano, the colours work well with your room but you don't like the subject, right? If that's the case, this consideration will have to be a decision based on what subject(s) you really like or are quite sentimental to, as opposed to colour matching an art piece just to fit in with the rest of the room. If you do play the piano, musicians are very sentimental people, so you want something above the piano that you can "feel and connect to" when you're sitting there playing. It has to be sentimental to you, irrespective of what it is and what colour it may be, and not to consider it as part of the rooms overall decor. I agree with Jonathan, these things don't really add value, they just make a house potentially easier to sell, as opposed to increasing the price someone will pay. They're probably just less likely to knock you down on your asking price. Our Warwickshire office took part in anITV programme hosted by Linda Barker about adding value to your home and the results of the valuations before and after were quite suprising in some cases! We've since found that despite property prices in neighbouring Gloucestershire being already high, adding a well made, oak framed outbuilding really does make a difference to the value of the home. People love having somewhere to park their expensive cars!
