help for house entrance
Comments (0)My Victorian house has a side entrance accessed from a narrow side alley. I'm interested in a modern glass extension to cover and enclose this area - any advice?...See MoreHelp making our dark narrow hallway more "finished"
Comments (19)I would add colour, perhaps change the floor depending on budget and add some nice storage where you hang your clothes rather than leave it open. You can have some kind of console under the stairs with lighting and a round mirror to make the place look spacious and perhaps small pendants , 3 or so, along the corridor. Definitely looks like it needs brightening up and lighting is key. However of course it depends on what you doing with the rest of the house, for example you could even change the stairs and have a nice runner . It is not just the hallway, but the entrance to your house and it all has to flow!...See MoreNarrow sgl storey rear extn layout help needed
Comments (4)Narrow houses are always tricky, and long narrow spaces need particular care. I think that putting the kitchen centrally makes sense, but I think that the kitchen island is far too big, and dominates the whole space. It also cuts the space in half, creating a sense of 3 small spaces crammed together, rather than the open-plan room you might be aiming for. My suggestion would be to shorten the island by 600mm, push it against the wall as a simpler run of kitchen worktop, and have a smaller peninsula unit at the living room end with space for a couple of stools. I'd put storage under the stairs, and include the washing machine if possible to free up more of the kitchen. I think an integrated fireplace might take up too much space - what about a small wood-burner instead? https://www.modernstoves.co.uk/neo-multi-fuel-wood-burning-stove.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIiLCc09Hj3gIVCZ7VCh1BBweoEAkYFCABEgLOCPD_BwE# You could pop it into the corner of the room and have a smaller 'floating' wall cabinet for storage. https://www.theplasmacentre.com/tv-stands-and-av-racks/tv-stands/sel-wander-1800-oak.html?cpgn=201&utm_source=products-adds&utm_campaign=sel-wander-1800-oak&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIx7e1g9Lj3gIVmed3Ch0Arw72EAQYASABEgI_7_D_BwE Good luck!...See MoreNeed help to makeover ideas for Parents narrow living room
Comments (12)Some thoughts - Although there is not much that can be done with the length of the room I am noting that the decor/display items in the room are very low and hugging the walls, which probably is accentuating the length. A shelf display unit or bookcase next to the radiator or under one of the sconces, that is taller would enable displays, but not crowd the floor. Color wise it could be a white or light grey. A floating shelf or two would provide display areas, if you didn’t want to locate a unit. If you would like to achieve a warmer room, then swapping out the mirrored cabinet and display stands will remove a reflective and cool element. As the fireplace has decor items in front, I take it that it isn’t used for heat so maybe a midsize ottoman in front would break up the length of the room. It could be in purple to bring in the purple throws, or cream, or another color drawn from the wallpaper. Another trick might be to place warmer globes in the sconces, so there is a warmer ambient light....See MoreE D
