Help needed please for living room makeover
Comments (10)I think you can definitely go for dark walls. I had an East facing sitting room and painted it navy. It was still surprisingly very sunny in the morning and cosy. The only thing to keep in mind that you'll need to a good lighting design scheme to have enough light later in the day and to be able to create the right mood. In terms of furniture layout, it'd be good to draw it and see what can be done. The positioning of the sofas seems less than ideal for sitting on them in a group and chatting as it looks almost like 2 separate spaces. You could also add some storage for toys and grown up bits....See MoreLong and narrow living room, please help!
Comments (10)It might be worth looking into a stove with a faux chimney breast. Just looking at your sofa, lamps etc it looks as if you like a classical/transitional style? If you did opt for that and it's feasible to install again I might position it off centre. http://www.woodburners.com/installations/no-chimney,-no-problem.html you may hate this idea but I have a large oriental wardrobe next to my fire which houses the tv. Your tv doesn't look huge so it may be an option if of course you like it. I only know of this one which is an actual tv cabinet or you could do as we did and drill holes in the back of the wardrobe (it obviously needn't be an oriental one but one that doesn't scream wardrobe!) https://www.oka.com/peking-handpainted-chinoiserie-tv-cabinet.aspx Although if you had a fire as the focal point you may find the tv fades into the background or paint the alcoves a darker shade etc. Re rug I suppose it depends if you move the leather seats into the play room but something with a subtle pattern might look nice? Have you looked for anything else to replace the leather? I like the storage unit you've found. It looks as if your side tables would work the other way round so you could have a media cabinet for cd's and dvds where the toys are currently stored or an apothecary cabinet may work well....See MoreRun out of ideas to make this narrow space work, help!
Comments (5)Thanks for the suggestion Picasso. We’ve considered moving the washer and dryer elsewhere but there’s no where practical they can go, or enough space for where is (it’s an old house with a complicated plumbing system, which is also under concrete) We will definitely have tall units as part of the design, which we’re hoping would house the fridge, freezer and oven/microwave. Potentially the washer and dryer too but we’re a family of 5 and used to having large drums (10kg+) and struggling to find integrated larger than 8kg. We would prefer to use our existing appliances but getting mixed messages from the kitchen designers we’ve been to see which is adding to our indecision’s. Some saying we can’t stack them some saying you can and others saying it’s better integrated. Apologies for all the extra info, we have so much to consider and never done this before so want to make sure we get it right....See MoreLiving Room - Quick Surprise Makeover - Help/Advice needed
Comments (9)Thanks for the feedback guys. I have 4/5 days and I am off from work. I also have a friend or two to help. The plan is to: Day one: strip the wallpaper and sand the wood around the room. The wallpaper has been on for around 7 years and under the paper is lining paper. The paper is decent quality but has seen better days. Day two: paint ceiling and start painting the wood. Make a start on the new lining paper. Day three: paint the walls and finish wood. Day four: add some new furnishings and last minute touches. Maybe new sockets and switches and the ceiling light. Add a rug maybe too. Bonus if I can add some shelving in the alcoves etc. The archway leads to some storage space under the stairs. Currently houses a chest freezer. Thanks, I know advice is not enough time but it’s the only time I have when kids are out and stuff can get done....See More- 9 months ago
