How can I make my boring flat pack furniture look stylish.?
Comments (14)I love the colour of the furniture, but I would definitely find some new handles for them. Maybe something in lilac? Like a cut glass, or something ceramic and pretty. Look at Laura Ashley for inspiration but you can find cheaper versions, and usually just as well made, elsewhere. Match the wardrobe to the chest of drawers more and make them look even more refined. Also maybe put something above the wardrobe, like a trunk or something fitting to the room, to fill the space. Love how this looks already though, not much more and it'll be perfect....See Morehow to change the look of these stairs and hand rail
Comments (4)How much are you able/ prepared to do on the stairs? You could have the steps re-tiled, or carpeted, laid with wood and a carpet runner, and you could install a new handrail if you have a larger budget. However, if you want to work with what you've got, I would focus on the tiles. I don't think the handrail itself is a problem- it could do with a lick of paint, but the tiles are a little dated. You can paint floor tiles but you'd need to be very careful to make sure that they were done safely to avoid slips on the stairs. Alternatively, you could have a stair runner fitted, to cover up most of the tiles, and then put some colourful artwork on the wall at the back to draw the eye upwards and away from the tiles. I hope it goes well- post us some pics when you've finished. Best wishes, Kate www.TheHomeDesignSchool.com...See MoreWill changes in flooring look too 'bitty'?
Comments (10)Thanks, folks - all your input is much appreciated! jprzym, yes, we'll definitely need some cosy rugs - I like the idea of hard (i.e. washable) flooring, but think I'd definitely need the visual warmth of at least one largish rug in living area and one in dining. (don't want to have too many small ones, for potential trip hazard) Naturally Inspired Flooring, thanks for confirming suitability of engineered wood - can you also confirm that it'd be OK with underfloor heating? I've seen mixed messages about this? I'm definitely coming round to idea of mixed materials, have now seen a few examples online which look really good....See MoreNeed ideas for upgrading a boring beige granny-student flat
Comments (6)Just a quick question..................what's in the store room and is it big enough for the office? If it's in storage in a little flat...............do you need the stuff in the store more than office space? There's just a little too much in the lounge. The chest in the window is nice, but would be better with a grey and white colour scheme if it were dark wood. You don't need the side table as you've got a coffee table and it's stopping the sofa from being placed in the middle of the wall. Does the little side table fit in the bay? If not, then maybe that should go. The magazine rack maybe could go at the wall end of the sofa if you bring the sofa away from the wall and then it's hidden. The little blue chair is too much and isn't helping the 'lining the walls' placement of everything. The book cases although functional are out of place in style, so yes they could get painted to tie in with the sofa and a wall colour maybe. If they're the same colour as the wall they'd stand out less. The one at the T.V end of the table needs moving to the other side of the table and pinning to the wall as it's leaning and dangerous. They're not the most substantial of pieces at the best of times, but a corner would support it better. Maybe you could change the two book cases for one, and have it as a screen for the office? The footstool is non-functional so needs to go. You can bring the t.v unit back out from the corner also and to match the placement of the sofa opposite and paint that too. It really needs to be dark to match the table in the bay and the other furniture like the chest in the bay and the sideboard in the hallway. I like the idea of the painted table and the grey sofa. The Texas sofa bed is wrong for the style of the other furniture you're going with. I actually like the sofa that's in there more than the other two you've chosen. Something more like this would work with the grey and white and dark brown wood. That one granted is expensive, but lots can be found for cheaper than that, especially scout around on Ebay and the local Facebook pages, you never know what you're gonna find, and it's always fun getting a bargain! All of that will go great with your choice of chandelier....See MoreAndee Photography Fine Art And Digital Design
