water leak from the reservoir

I have 2 if these self watering planters and have noticed that the water starts to leak out as soon as I fill the reservoir. The indicators show the level is low every day. Is it supposed to leak?? (Is it defective and what can I do about it??)

Hi there, sorry to hear about the problems you've had. Ashton's have given good advice, and the flex-seals are a good option to reduce your risks of leaks further. I too would be interested to know what tray you used? The quality of trays can vary hugely, and over the years we've narrowed down what we use to a few suppliers we trust. It is not until you come to fit or, indeed, still later that you find that "bargain" was actually an expensive mistake. I'd echo mayfly's advice too - by splitting all the elements of your bathroom (different products from different suppliers, different builders/tilers etc), you leave yourself open to escalating problems with everyone blaming everyone else. If you go to a single independent, they'll put together a package based on products and tradesmen they trust, and if anything goes wrong you only have to deal with one company, and they'll normally move heaven and earth to fix it. And their tradesmen & suppliers will move heaven and earth to sort it too - they won't want to risk losing all that repeat trade where they might walk away from a single difficult job. It might look as though the up front price is a little higher than doing it all yourself, but when things go awry you may find it is a false economy. Kam, I think the wall is drying out. It will just take time to dry completely. There may be a batten fixed against the wall around the plug and therfore this is in contact with the wall behind. The dumidifier will help pull the water out provided the entire room is sealed. The picture shows signs of drying out, so juat wait and I'm sure you will have a dry wall in time. Best Rowland

Assume you've checked all the hoses and connections for any leaks, the tap is tight and sealed ok Its either coming from a gap between the worktop and the rim of the sink which should have either a gasket, plumbers mate or silicon, where water has splashed over the side of the sink onto the worktop and then run down under the lip but if thats the case if the worktop is a laminate (chipboard) you would also see damage of the worktop. Or condensation, does it stop in the summer, is the sink on an external wall and does the sink get very cold.

I’m not sure what is shown in the picture….. do you have floor boards under this? Or is it a chipboard floor? If this is just some insulation from under the carpet or laminate then rip it up and get rid of it. If it is chipboard it might well be moisture resistant and short term a mop with some bleach will be enough until you can replace it. And Sonia is right - this may be covered by insurance
