Headboard under window

can anybody offer any advise, regarding a bed being placed under a window. This is the only place the bed can be placed. I haven’t moved in to the house yet so can’t upload picture of the room. I really wanted a large headboard but I’m worried this will look silly as it will cover half of the window, I’m als concerned how this will look from outside the property. Should I opt for blind, curtains or shutters ( although not keen on shuttears) should I just get rid of the headboard altogether? Although this might make the bed move about.

Hi there,

My first concern would be blocking the light... But without a picture of the room (and knowing if there's other windows), it's hard to tell.

Beds can look good in front of windows. I do agree with Mehdia re loss of light and it would be good to see pics once available (many windows also seem to be off centre when in this predicament!). I also agree with you re what it looks from outside. Shutters (or cafe ones) would be ideal but you could consider bottom up blinds, these are sheer but there are non-sheer ones available. You could layer these with curtains (or do the same with shutters)

Yep the wallpaper is definitely going, although I kind of like it in a strange way! The window cupboards will also be removed as the space behind is not insulated. We're having it boarded up with insulation boards and reskimmed as currently its very draughty. Ideally we would have integrated some storage into the space but we can't afford it. The floor boards are also being taken up and the floor insulated, so we have lots of expensive on things that visually make no difference to the space. The back wall I feel we need to keep clear as its the only one in the room that is free of obstructions. Minipie and Katkin, I like your idea of having storage to the left and a desk on the wall as you come into the room, the headboard under the window or on the opposite wall depending on what we decide about the radiator. I don't think a desk would fit with the radiator in its current location. I wonder if replacing the radiator with a column one as you walk it might be a better idea?

So this is what I’m working with (yes, they should have switched the sink and toilet, the house is full of these types of flaws and design mistakes :( ). I guess a freestanding or folding is my only option (both of which I wanted to avoid as they never look “good”).

We have the bed in front of the window as it is the only place it can go. Not obvious from outside. We have curtains. I’m getting used to it and actually quite like it now!
