Living room dilemma
Comments (6)I'm a big fan of picking one wall to paint a stronger colour and go neutral or off white with the other walls. It is nice to have a colour, so pick something you like and get your accessories in this colour, cushions lamp, rug etc, this will help tie the room together. I'm not a big fan of mixing styles, and would tend to aim to coordinate storage units, picture frames and coffee table etc. Shopping from IKEA is easy but less individual than finding preloved and vintage furniture. Your current coffee table looks retro, maybe that will inspire you?...See MoreLiving room dilemmas, I can't get it right!
Comments (19)I'm typing with my laptop on a single bed/pouffe which I use as a coffee table with slip proof black waiters tray on when people come over. Re throws, you could fold them over an arm so they're handy when you want to snuggle up. Personally I literally 'THROW' mine and see where they land!!! I agree with everything Minnie says - as always, she's a wise and clever lady - and I would pull the corner sofa away from the back wall to just the other side of the bit of wall that juts out. Then you have the perfect space for an amazing lamp. Look at Wayfair or Not On The High Street as well as, of course, Houzz, under the lighting section. The other chair could be placed to face the garden as a reading chair if it doesn't obstruct your TV viewing, but I'd try it anyway as, if it looks good, the TV can be moved. Not sure if the TV is on a wall bracket but it might be worth doing that. Cushions with the same colours as the wall art would be good. I have a number of CYGNUS PAPILIO cushions by JOSEPH ALEXANDER GOODE. They also do bedding now so, if you're handy with a sewing machine, you could make a few cushion covers from one single duvet. It's a lovely room!...See MoreDesign dilemma #living room
Comments (15)Sukiharrison and Odd job Hadyman, Thank you very much for your comments :) We actually intended to have the sofa on the opposite wall and built in cabinets and shelves exactly like you've suggested but I absolutely loved this big L shape sofa so desided to have it as it is now. There is no problem to move one part of the sofa to the opposite wall and the other to the wall against the window, but for now this is more convenient lay out. The shelves have to wait for now but I imagine them in white. After hearing a few suggestions about the secondary light by the window I will probably listen to the pros and remove it In favour of a floor or table lamp. No curtains.. For now :) I have a big thing about dust and would like this house to be as easy to clean as possible and generally don't like curtails Over radiators. Thou I understand this will affect the appearance I'd like to keep it simple....See MoreLiving room paint dilemma
Comments (15)I've just come back from a chum's house who wanted decor help. I'm not a professional in any way, shape or form, but she likes the way I've decorated my house and wanted my input. Her current sitting room has a long feature wall papered in deep red, with cream walls on the other walls. The red is dark and light sapping so glad it is going. She has bought curtains and wallpaper in a white/grey/green/lemon country style design. She needed help choosing a nice neutral for the rest. We finally chose Dulux Polished Pebble (a pale grey with a tiny hint of green). I also liked Dulux Swansdown, an even paler grey which was my preferred one. Maybe have a look at these two? You have quite a lot of elements going on so I would stick with something pale and neutral. I love the fireplace as it is by the way!...See MoreE D
