you should consult an engineer/architect for this to draw up the building plans to submit to the city. After all, you'll need to replumb, move electrical, ensure there are no venting issues, since it's attached to a shop make sure the fire rating of the wall is up to code. A $300 stud wall sounds like the least of your possible issues :)

Thanks both of you for your advice. @ Kharis & Kale - I quite like the idea of a dado rail with half height wallpaper but I'm not sure it would work for this property. Plus the downstairs is pretty much all open plan which would mean a lot of dado! Think it would look great otherwise. @ Space Interior Design Ltd - unfortunately there won't be a natural division as such as we will be having shelves above the breakfast bar & then wall cabinets to the right of that. I didn't want the 'heaviness' of cabinets above the breakfast bar. I had thought about wallpaper behind glass but that won't work with shelving. The splash back will be Quartz just behind the hob with up stands along the rest of the worktop. Maybe I'll just have to stick with paint but feel the need for some pattern especially as this will be a focal wall. Most of the other walls have windows, patio doors or interior doors which limits our options for papering.

Hi Alexander, This one is 130cm wide, so possibly a bit too big - but offers plenty of storage that can be hidden behind sliding doors or left open. It's available in solid oak or walnut, and has a lovely midcentury style. Classic Oak Sideboard Here's a couple of taller units that could work, both under 110cm wide. They are in solid wood (oak or walnut), and are great for storage. Mister Sideboard Contador Sideboard If you're able to fit a wider, lower sideboard, have a look at these media units. My first thought was that I'd aim to match your door, windows, and boards, and that the pale grey you've chosen is a good one to go for. When I thought about it a bit longer, I remembered that your house is brick, not rendered. Pale tudor boards on a white house looks great, because it's a subtle contrast. Against brick, pale tudor boards would be a huge contrast. I wonder if pale grey windows and dark grey boards would work? It would show that you've considered the whole, rather than just replacing parts piecemeal, but it wouldn't be as stark as pale grey. Here's just the windows: Here's the effect with matching boards: And here it is with medium grey boards: I took the pebble grey and darkened it a bit. I think it looks quite smart! You could go lighter still, maybe just a shade or two darker than the windows. You could also go darker so it's more similar to the current effect, but clearly harmonised.
