Views, Fireplace and TV layout help !
Comments (5)Great comments thanks. Interesting to consider breaking the area up. So far we'd been focussed on as open plan as possible with quite a contemporary 'free hanging' type woodburner Fire. But maybe we could utilise the old timber chimney to create a separation between The dining and living areas open on all four sides. I've attached a picture of it (actually there are two there right now, bit tricky to see in the photo but hope you get the idea. This 'barn level' is what will become the floor of the plan you're considering). I like this idea of using this, could make a great centrepiece and use some of the existing traditional building materials which we'd like to maximise but probably it makes my layout dilemma even harder as when facing the fireplace (which would have to be further left than on the plan I guess) we'd be facing completely away from the view and probably TV. Mmm more thinking needed but nice idea. Maybe the 'mobile' TV stand idea could help this. The other slight consideration is that one day the place may be rented to a chalet holiday company so the dining and sitting spaces have to have enough room to seat 12-14. Meaning we can't break it up too much. All views very welcome. Would love to hear your thoughts. Many thanks. Richard....See MoreIdeas to minimise the impact of a TV!
Comments (6)And you don't have to mount it on the wall. I prefer a TV standing on a piece of furniture. But that's a personal choice. Neither do you have to paint the wall a dark colour. It does work to camouflage the blackness of the TV, but then again, it also makes the room a bit darker, so you either like that or you may want to keep it light. You could of course also hide the TV behind a sliding panel. I know you have loads of books. You could have a bookcase, incorporate the TV, hang a panel on a ceiling track and slide it in front of the TV when you're not watching. Just an idea... :-)...See MoreTV stand/bookcase inspiration please!
Comments (8)Ok, how deep are the alcoves? are You able to do basic diy? I cut my Billy 10cm to fit into the space. It was worth it. I really like your fireplace surround. It would be really nice to get or install something to compliment it. go for billy/ besta combination. besta 120cm (60+60 combination) cabinet with legs and put a top 132cm to go for wall to wall. Complete with billy/besta wall cabinet above. If someone is able to do some diy you can add some side panels to look built in. Look on the YouTube, there are videos people do it. The on the other side take billy tall cabinets (80cm+80cm) as built in bookcases. go for white cabinets and combination of glass and solid doors. You would be also able to add some cabinet lights . Good luck. Let me know if you need help x...See MoreAlcove TV Unit, TV is 0.5cm too big! What about ceiling speakers?
Comments (15)Hi Tony. I think having the tv at an angle and building the cupboard out a little is probably the best option if you didn’t want to downsize the tv. Regarding speakers, ceiling speakers are a good idea if you’re in the construction phase, they usually come in pairs (left and right) and four would be more than adequate for a large room. You would need the ceiling speaker hoods as well for fire and sound protection. Also the necessary wiring would need to be hidden and all speaker wires go to an AV receiver which then connects to tv ( I think...not really an expert on this). Have a look at Richer sounds website, they should have lots of info: https://www.richersounds.com/hi-fi/in-wall-ceiling-speakers.html @ Jonathan, I can feel my hubby’s horrified look if he heard you say that TVs alone have adequate speakers ;-) (he is a perfectionist when it comes to tech stuff mind). We prefer freestanding speakers so we can upgrade as and when. And finally is the fireplace already existing? If not (at the risk of offending other Houzzers:)) maybe consider tv set into chimney breast above a low ribbon style fire, perhaps bio ethanol fuel as these wouldn’t need a flue. Tv above fire is usually a big no no as the tv is too high up and would cause neck strain but the modern styles could work well.
