Few Ideas for this large 80s house & exterior modernisation, Input?
Comments (5)I think you need to look at the cost of the glass veranda as it is likely to be more expensive than the render that you say you can't afford. I am also not convinced it is going to look better because of the proposed flat roof on the bay- you could always get rid of the bay and have a plain window instead. Personally I think that you make the lounge lighter by adding light reflecting paving/ chippings/ pond outside the bay. You can also likely make the room feel lighter by changing the flooring in the room for paler. I really like the double front doors but glass doors would of course let in more light. I think replacing the digits and facials will make very little difference to the feel of the house and should be the last job you do not the first. If it were my house I would be more concerned about the windows above the front door. Personally I would perhaps have just one window here and if another window is necessary put in a velux above. Lastly you write about wanting to update the house.... do you like the style of this era.... if not perhaps you should be thinking about changing the window proportions or covering the brick even though this may not currently be in budget?...See More1957 Exterior: Ideas to renovate respectfully please
Comments (10)I wouldn't be tempted to follow the current trend of grey, it's been very popular and has been used for all manner of houses (some quite ill advised choices) but it is now on the wane which will look dated soon. Also it wouldn't have been used in the original house when it was built. I think it would make it look very "grubby" looking. I agree with Jonathan, white would be my preferred choice, much more in keeping with the age of the house and the surrounding houses. Again, I love Jonathan's idea of the steps. Would you consider a small extension closing in the porch, which could enable your front door to be on the front of the house and perhaps at the top of said steps?...See MoreExterior improvements ideas please
Comments (7)Change the upstairs windows to match the downstairs bay because lots of fanlights are more in keeping. Then paint the woodwork and the pebbledash on the front gable- I would choose black and white. Then clad the garage so it looks like a more substantial building next to the handsome house. Then replace the tarmac path with something nicer such as brick pavers. Lovely house now but it could be even better....See MoreImprove/modernise external appearance - timber cladding ideas?
Comments (5)The house looks like its got a good base and just needs a bit updating. I think cladding it in live edge timber would look great with the dormer windows matching. The frames could be changed but it might not be worth the cost/ hassle right away, I'd change the garage door to a timber one and maybe clad the porch area in a stone to work with the other stone walls? You could also change the small roof at the front for a balcony (or faux balcony) with a metal railing. It would look good with some planting on it, maybe on the rails?...See MoreA B
