Need help with my beautiful original victorian tiled hallway.
Comments (4)We lifted our encaustic tiles and relaid them on a new floor. Most builders will say they can't be relaid as its too much work. We ended up lifting each individual tile ourselves and cleaning off all the grout so that the builder couldn't claim the tiles all cracked when he tried to lift them. It then took him a week to re-lay them but he agreed at the end it was worth it. Stick to your guns, I would either leave the floor or make sure you closely supervise the lifting and cleaning of each individual piece....See MoreDoes anyone know how I can achieve this look with tiles and wood floor
Comments (12)Tracey, those are encaustics which tend to be 18-20mm in depth, your wood will most likely be engineered ply if you have underfloor heating and depths vary 12mm upward. If one or the other substrate needs to be built up to accommodate the other that is possible. Be aware there will be some movement between the two, more so if you are using long boards, less with parquet, so consider how best to deal with any movement or expansion between the two. There are plenty of products available for this. Make sure your encaustics are sealed correctly. You could also find the cleaning regimen of the two finishes may be very different. Lithoflin for encaustics - and oil/wax for an oiled floor, that's not a great combination, so perhaps an easy maintenance wood might be better in the long run....See MoreHelp needed with fireplace colours, tiles, decor
Comments (11)Hi. You only have a few pics in your ideabook so I don't really know what style you like or what else is in the room. If in budget I would do something like this with subtle black and white geometric tiles. The surround could either be white or a dark grey https://www.houzz.co.uk/photos/contemporary-bedroom-contemporary-bedroom-phvw-vp~15424094 In terms of accessorising you could have a round mirror with just a vase of flowers in front which sit slightly in front of the mirror, choose informal style flowers such as blossom etc alternatively you could just add a piece of art with maybe a couple of bowls, maybe with some brass to pick up the fire, in different sizes on the mantle off centre...See MoreHelp needed to decide if wood effect tiles are ok for living room.
Comments (18)With grandchildren I would avoid glossy tiles as they will be very slippery when wet. Karndean and other luxury vinyl tiles (LVT) are a good practical option. Floorify and Polyfloor are some other brands that also do wood look. They are pretty bombproof. I’m not sure if they are compatible with underfloor heating, however they are not cold like tiles so it’s less necessary. For wet underfloor heating you would generally need to raise the floor to accommodate the pipes and screed (which also means redoing doorways etc) or take up and replace the whole existing subfloor. So it’s quite a big job....See MoreHALLETT & Co.
