Dark boys bedroom- help needed
The other dark room is my sons who is just 6. I painted it cream as it's so dark with pale blue on one wall. I plan to buy light grey wood wardrobe and cupboard and put in a mid sleeper cabin bed. But i realily need some colour advice.
He has car duvet, light and little pictures that match at the momen. I did wonder about a space theme? He likes most things though- cars, diggers, dinosaur, space etc. Plus I need some ideas of ways to show his Lego and toys of. off. I'd like some intricate shelves to display his things but don't know where to look? All ideas and advice welcome as it needs some inspiration!

5 years agoI have this in the playroom to do exactly that. His bedroom is quite small so ideally I'd like little shelves/ boxes on wall to display little bits like Lego figures etc.

Comments (8)You could go for completely white washable Matt, then around each boys bed you could have objects on shelves, rugs etc that are particular to them and their ages. This will help you create a room applicable to both boys. Plain white will also make the room look larger. Comments (10)The advantage of the hemnes day bed is it can convert to a double so could last until adulthood in theory. Would you/he consider a midsleeper? There are loads on Wayfair (with good reviews). 5 years agoI agree with Jonathan about the blind, it is stealing light. Low ikea cube shelving units are good with stacked clear lidded boxes from Rymans for storing lego. I would also suggest a bed base with space underneath as you can get long narrow boxes that can be stored under beds and tucked away. This means the messy clutter aspect of lego can be hidden making space for displaying their finished models. Although he is young now, I would say that investing in bespoke flexible storage may be something that is used for years to come. Our house was actually chosen in part to accommodate lego and drum kits, so determined was I to have spaces for creative play rather than just gadgets which is often the norm.
On the subject of colour, dark rooms tend to benefit from two approaches - either paint in a lighter reflective (but slightly warm) paint, and/or inject some saturated colour. Subtlety is often lost in these situations so something like a wall of bright orange (maybe the window wall) would give a bit of focus to the room and connect with all of his toys and bits and bobs. Also habitat do bedding in such a bright orange you need sunglasses, this could be used in conjunction with his duvet cover.
These are shelves in my son's room, very simple and not costly to have built.
