Gardens Exteriors Design Dilemma

What colour paint for garden walls?

My driveway needs refurbing and the front and side walls need repairing and repainting. I really like the idea of painting them a slate-black colour, to contrast with the white house, but my family think I’m mad and say I should stick with white paint. What do you think? How about painting one of them dark? Or maybe a black strip along the bottom to match the house?

Bumping. Can’t help with the cladding dilemma but for what it’s worth I think it looks nice. Would be good to see other parts of the house for a comparison in colour and there could be a number of reasons why the colour has turned out lighter. For the rear fence there’s lots of choices but I think a vertical design or decorative panels would look good. I like the look of these irregular width vertical strips (see pic). Hi guys!! Updating this as I need more help. Well the paint has not weathered well!!! Even though I had cleaned the original wall and got rid of the algae - it's come back and is now bright green all along the bottom of the garage. Also some of the paint is flaking on the front which it shouldn't do surely if it's masonry?? So I'm back to square one, sigh. I plan on buying a specialist algae remover from a specialist company which is super strong and then perhaps getting an undercoat (as previously mentioned by ED) or sealer to seal existing finish. then using a branded masonry paint like stormshield by Johnstones. However - I'm now thinking of painting it in a darker grey anthracite colour as after having had it white for a few months, I really don't like it! BUT - I still have the issue of all the off white windows and guttering which has yellowed slightly so don't know if I am just making far more work for myself. I feel the darker colour would hide any returning algae but then the bad plastic will look awful next to it so I don't know what to do. Also I'm limited on timescale as we are putting the house on the market in a few months and I have so much painting to do outside (the house front, garage, all the new gates and fencing - and it's all got to be done as soon as the frost goes and when it's not rainy! argh. I like the dark blue. I have a similar/perhaps the same colour on part of my fence to compliment the grey. It’s Cuprinol Garden Shades Iris. My neighbour has the pale blue painted on his son‘s play house and it’s vile. On the next road to me a fence has also been painted in the pale blue and that looks wishy washy too. In the Cuprinol range there are lots of colour choices and it’s fabulous stuff and so easy to put on. Perhaps look at the green colours?

stick with white. You would be surprised at how much dirtier dark paint looks than white! Dust and rain much shows. Plus the white looks good with the house...

Hi

I definitely would not paint the walls in a site, black colour. The walls would then look ugly against the dark tarmac. You need a contrast and I would keep the walls the same colour as the house.

I would introduce a bit of black to the top capping tiles on the pillars to echo the black strip on the bottom of the house
