Right, my en suite bathroom - do your worst!
Comments (132)They are lovely handles Patrina. I'm having a bit of a handle issue since the holes in the pull handles on the four drawers are 83mm centre to centre and there are not many options with that sizing in brushed brass. I've found a couple of possibilities from china but with the problems there I'm not sure how long they will take to arrive....See MoreWhat do you think of open plan bathrooms?
Comments (65)I'm looking to renovate the ensuite of my 2 bed flat and came across photos of open plan bathrooms. Some of the photos look great and I'm considering it as I don't have much room to work with in the bathroom and my bedroom has room I can use. I'm looking at moving the basin into the bedroom area, which would free up space for a bath and shower. I was thinking of making the basin look less bathroom-y and more like a makeup desk using wood and soft furnishing and a full length mirror. The rest of the bathroom would be behind a wall (no door). Main problem is that the door to the bedroom will open to the the basin (the rest of the bedroom is on the left), which I guess would put people off. I quite like the idea but I'm concerned it would put off potential buyers (more so after reading the comments). Should I stick with a traditional ensuite? I can put a bath and shower in there but I think it would be too cramped or I can loose the bath and have more room with just a shower. What do you think?...See MorePlanning new bathroom and ensuite Argh!
Comments (19)I'm not moving or building walls, or knocking through doorways until I'm sure what I want. Living in the house while remodeling it is quite a challenge. There are very differing opinions around what size the bathrooms should be here too. Having only one door in the bedroom has massive advantages where there is no door right next to his side of the bed being a superking, and also having no door there means that any other bed, even a king could be moved to back onto that wall, tv opposite wall etc. As a main bedroom with a double bed, there isn't room for a wardrobe due to the window size, those drawers are all we have, and the rest is in suitcases ...hence my insistence of taking a chunk out of the room next door to accommodate us.... more on shelving and shoes than hanging space though. There only really needs to be a decent shower for my husband in the en-suite and carry out the "three S's" on a morning. Plumbing worries me due to the structure of the house, so I'd like to try to make a common area eg back to back on the loos to help with what will already be a nightmare, however one on the external wall already may be a good thing. I want a good sized bath but not stand alone, I want surface area around it, none of this having to reach behind or to the end or to the floor for the shampoo and perching the soap dish on the side any more. At the moment, I take a little table and place it in the middle of the bathroom floor with candles and the tablet to catch up on shows, as this is really the only time and place I get to do that! The only time I see a shower cubicle is to wash dye out of my hair. Thanks for the sounding board and ideas, good to get opinions... I'll be back with something more refined taking all into account :)...See MoreRenovation- Master bedroom and bathroom, ideas please!
Comments (17)I would say, it's do'able, but does it work? In my opinion no. The width of the room is 3.5m. A kingsize bed is roughly 1.75m wide. That will leave you with 87cm walk space either side of the bed if you put up a false wall. Not only does it conflict with the window position because you need the depth for the wardrobe plus around 1m crouch space at the rear of the wall, plus the depth of the wall, but it means that you can't have bedside tables either, because it's not wide enough. If you wanted to add bedside tables........and my own personal view is that it looks funny without them..........then you need 1.75 for the bed, plus 1m ( for two cabinets ), that's 2.75m, that only leaves you with 37cm to walk either side of the wall to get to either the bathroom or the wardrobes. The wall could only be the same width as the bed and I just think it looks weird. If you look at the length of the room and how it will be reduced, I also think it affects that too much also. The wardrobes depth will be on average 60mc, plus 10cm for the wall and 1 metre of crouch space.........total 1.75 plus the length of the bed the other side of the wall, 200-220cm - Total could be 3.95m leaving 55-75cm at the foot of the bed to walk. You could argue that the 75cm is plenty, that's true enough, but do you want to open the door and be met with the foor of the bed right in front of you? I guessed the size of the bathroom for the interim until you measure. I'd go for something like Karen at OnePlan has suggested and don't change the bedroom, or if you want to have the shower and the bath, something like this:-I put in a wall between the walk in shower and the vanity. Put in a double vanity with two sinks, a free standing bath and the toilet. I think any more and you're trying to pack too much in and making things look crowded....See MoreAnthony (Beano)
