Need Advice On Island Worktop
Comments (5)Hi I recognise that plan! Good to see you on another advice forum. Duropal make I think around 6 of their colours of laminate worktop upto 1200mm in depth. Really it all depends on where you are getting your kitchen from and their suppliers. For example if we are getting laminate worktop from a UK supplier then we get it from a 'cut and edge' worktop supplier, not just a 'blank' board supplier. A cut and edge worktop supplier will supply laminate worktop to a plan we provide, they will pre cut the masons mitre joints and profile all the edges. This is so much better than the fitter cutting blanks and gluing on laminate edges. I know from previous discussions on the other forum you were looking at Schuller kitchens, I assume this is not your choice now as you would not have these problems you are talking about with the laminate worktop, because Schuller have a huge range of laminate worktops, with lots of edge options and in all sizes! Anyway, ask your kitchen man about getting a price for the laminate worktop from a cut and edge specialist. CK...See Moreextraction fan for kitchen island
Comments (25)We have a ceiling mounted extractor in a very large room and it works really well. We ended up with a Brittania BEST extractor (bought from John Lewis) simply because we have a structural steel running above and the position of the internal ducting fit best with that model, though it's a bit bigger than we ideally wanted. The slightly lowered section of ceiling around the extractor is also because of the steel and wouldn't otherwise have been needed. We were actually told that there is a minimum height, rather than maximum, for it to work properly - see http://www.besthoods.co.uk/2011/08/ceiling-extractors-8-things-you-need-to-consider-before-buying-a-ceiling-hood/ It's very powerful and we've had no issues with it. A family member has the pop up option and that has been a bit of a hassle - it's not that powerful and ends up getting dirty from cooking every time....See MoreExtension kitchen layout wobbles.......can anyone offer advice?
Comments (36)Brilliant things to consider Minnie thank you. Only 4 of us in the house, and we do have a seperate dining room. I only want casual bar stool seating for the kitchen but am struggling with where else to place 4 bar stool. Haven't got the width of room to have them all down the side of island facing the wall of units, plus I really like the sleek look of an island and didn't want to interupt that streamlined look by having seating around one end in an L shape. Can't thing of any other option unless someone can thing of something to consider I'd be very grateful. I had my heart set on a mirror splash back but got put off as people said I would have water marks on it all the time from the sink.....is that everyone's experience of a mirror splashback or might I have made a hasty judgement? I was thinking of a washed light grey oak type flooring or a warm oak flooring but was worried if I went for oak ( this would be my colour preference) that it wouldn't work as I will have nothing else oak in the room. It's a south facing room, sun all day and evening so was thinking of a off white light grey tone on the walls and lots of chrome......again struggling to know how to incorporate that and what to put with it colour/ accent/ decor wise to make it feel comfy and not clinical. I'd love dark coloured glass slider but all windows in house are white so I had discounted it. Minnie thanks a million for taking the time on your bumpy train journey to post, I cannot tell you how grateful I am to have your input...See MoreAdvice re kitchen diner extension plans
Comments (30)We currently have folding doors between the living and dining room but I find them very awkward. My plan (when we can afford it) is to put pocket doors there so we can easily close off the living room or have open as desired. So you think it's okay for the only access to the kitchen to be through the middle room? I wondered if it would end up feeling like a corridor, rather than a room! I don't know that we have the space for that much storage but it does look great. Having a couple of chairs at the end of an island or peninsula is a good idea, if there's not room on the side. Any thoughts on the kitchen layout? I've drawn so many floor plans and end up using a different one each time. I may have to figure it out with a kitchen designer once we have booked a builder. I know the builders we are considering are booked in advance for some time, so we should have some time to decide on the kitchen specifics! Thanks again for the input. I really appreciate it!...See Morethinkdesignlive
