Tile trim alternative

Instead of using tile trim, is there any reason you can't just put a wider grout line on a corner where you would put the tile trim. We mitred tiles once, but that was a bit tedious

I think the reason professional tilers use trim is that wide grout and cut tile edges are not nice. If you can’t currently afford tile trim then I say don’t start the job.

We didn’t use any trim as my husband doesn’t like it. We like how the corners look without trims. Your tiler will need to use painted sides on the tiles.

But, please check your tiles as some have all four sides unpainted so will not look right.

Hi, I agree that trims don't look good. If you opt for a porcelain tile then it is possible to cut a tile and then re polish the cut edge with a stone polishing kit. The same way that they polish the edge on a granite work surface. You can buy a kit from the likes of screw fix, you also need a grinder. This then allows you to have a neat finished edge. Having said all that I would look into a smoked mirror splash back as it's much more contemporary and easy clean.

I would definitely go with a tile trim that matches the tiles, so light grey would be best. My bathroom has been completing refurbished and we used a Carrera marble effect tile with a light grey tile trim. It looks beautiful. We also have chrome taps. Good luck on whatever colour you decide on.

We had a white tile trim in the bathroom and I think it gives it a nice finish. No tile trim was used in my kitchen and I wish we had used it. It looks a little unfinished.

I have never used tile trim ever as I'm not keen and usually go for tiles that are vitrified and not glazed. It's personal taste.
