would a small sofa fit this space and look ok

Our new kitchen extension was completed about 8 months ago. I absolutely love it but after spending time at friends houses over Christmas and seeing them having small sofas in their open plan kitchen dining rooms, making entertaining in the kitchen so much easier, I’m wondering if one would fit in a space we have between the table and the door into the family room or whether it would be too cramped.
I’m often relegated to watching tv in the kitchen, so having a sofa rather than a dining chair or bar stool to sit on would be comfier for me.
From the radiator to the door frame is 170cm so technically a small sofa like the photo I’ve attached would fit but would it look right?

Comments (17)I have a similar size and shape. Mine has the door where your 0.8m dimension is shown and an airing cupboard below where your door is indicated. This has meant I can move this stud wall to increase the bathroom a little and can now fit in a separate shower. Comments (13)It's definitely too tight for room. Your walk ways as standard should be 1m, however, even reduced down to those dimensions it won't all fit. I would suggest, as you've already said a breakfast bar isn't practical with young children, that you do not need stools at an island. The compromise needs to be the need for drawers on both sides of the island. Surely you wouldn't need this with a utility and walk in pantry. I've amended the plan a little to make a proper pantry on the left. You could keep the wide 900mm island, and fit a table against it without the drawers both sides. Like this. This could then extend to the same width as the island for entertaining, but you would probably need to push the sofa back a bit to fit a lot of people in. You could also consider dropping the Island width down to 600mm as you don't need the stools. Every little helps! By cutting down to a 600mm island, you almost have the obligatory sized walk throughs. You still don't achieve drawers both sides of the island or room for stools though. Have you thought about maybe using a concept planner? Karen @ OnePlan comes highly regarded on here, amongst others and eats plans like these for breakfast. Comments (5)I don’t think it works for several reasons. Freestanding bath sit best in the middle of a wall or window. I also think there is insufficient space to clean the floor around the bath, I think it will annoy you to splash the outside of the shower cubicle with bath water, it’s a pity to not be able to have a sink mirror because it’s got a window where the mirror would go. And I prefer not to see the WC first when entering a bathroom. You could substitute a panel bath for the freestanding one which would help because they take up less space but I I think you have to ask yourself where there is room for the dresser and whether the room would be easier to use with a replan...See More
