bi-folding doors whistling and howling wind? please help

I recently had some wonderful bifold doors fitted across an 8m space. They look really great. However whenever there is wind hitting the doors it seems to create a whistling or howling wind sound within the rubber bits between the doors. my builder is trying to pass it off as nothing, but wanted to check if others experience the same and is normal? or if there is an issue and if anyone else has had this fixed somehow? it's driving me up the wall unfortunately. thanks for your help.

I don't have doors like that but any whistling sound surely has to be a faulty seal? Perhaps contact the door manufacturers to ask so you have backup when you speak to your builder again. Hope you have withheld some money until everything is done properly?

thanks. yes. not given money fully as yet. this is one of the areas am unsure if its normal or not. good suggestion. will speak to manufacturer.

I'm a little late to the party but here's my two penn'orth; I think keeping the door at one of the ends would be batter than placing it centrally as it will intrude into an already small space less. The remaining two doors I think would look nice as full length windows, perhaps with black anodised or powder coated frames, keep one of the doors and upgrade it to use for the entrance if it is in good enough condition as it compliments the building. The roof needs relaying but as mentioned the old clay pegs would be nice to retain as they suit the building and mostly look reuseable, the hips would benefit from proper hip tiles as opposed to the concrete that is currently there. I notice that on the sunward side (right) there seems to be glass or metal set into the lower part of the roof, although that will allow a lot of light in, I imagine it will also make the interior hot in the summer so you will need at least ventilation. It looks as though there is enough depth to the rafters to be able to insulate between them with a faced polyurethane board so keeping the wood and it's character visible. Repoint the interior with lime mortar as mentioned to keep the look and character of the stone and brick walls. The roof would also benefit from gutters, a downpipe and a rain barrel, at least above the door and windows.

Hi Darren, having seen the photo's of the neighbours, no you may not have problems with planning. However, I don't see how this will solve your initial directive. You wanted a social space connected with the lounge. Just making the kitchen bigger I don't think solves this. I also do not think that the majority of people these days just want a big kitchen, they, like you want more open plan / broken plan living, thus putting the extension at the rear makes the most sense. I think you're going round in circles and making this a lot harder than it needs to be. There's enough room at the back for an extension, which gives you great space and lets you keep the garage. Win, win.................and more saleable in the future with more probably adds the most value to the house. Check with an estate agent.

yup. so it would be the door in the kitchen then a run of bifolds then a fixed full height window in the dining area. means I can have the central doors open if I want to and the two sides (where we would be sitting - so less of a draft) closed off - or we could just open the two traffic doors (one kitchen and one near the dining room end). As I say, my only concern about centre bi-folds is the fact that we have doors sticking out 1/3 of the length of the patio area - so cutting it off from the kitchen side. Perhaps this is normal and I'm over worrying about it! Like everything else. Scared to get it all wrong (rolls eyes at oneself)

We have bifolds and that does not happen. It sounds like an installation cause, definitely worth contacting the manufacturer for clarification.
