Best product to stain oak furniture?

I want to stain my oak TV unit so it matches the rest of the dark furniture in the roo. However there seems to be contradictory advice on Google about the best product to us. Can anyone recommend the best thing to use to get a similar colour to the little table next to it please?

I've recently used coloured Briwax furniture wax https://www.rustins.ltd/briwax/our-products/waxes/briwax-original on a side board we sanded down.

Turned out even better than I hoped and wasn't really that difficult to do. I think your unit is probably varnished so you'd have to give it sand first, but the wax brings up a lovely sheen. there are videos to watch on youtube which show various colours being applied and how to apply.

You can do it a couple of different ways. Both involve sanding the unit right back. You can then put on a couple of coats of Briwax in your desired colour, or you can stain ( Liberon Wood Dye is good ), and then varnish.

It depends on the type of finish that you want to achieve. What does the other furniture look like?

KV, I really like how the chair looks with the creamy paint and pink velvet. in fact, I find myself visualizing your pieces at the oddest moments and thinking about how they should be trimmed out. I love the idea of the sequins, and they work around the seat back etc., but I don't like it on the chair arm. So I'm with dc.....is there a more slender sequin trim? And the idea alluded to by amy also has appeal....not sure if I'm imagining what she's suggesting. Here's my thought: use a multi-colored fabric that is turned into the typical cording. Something with cream background and make sure to have the pink in it. What are your thoughts?

Hi Oak and Broad! That's just it, it didn't say what brand only that it was brushed natural oiled finish. The Pamphlet states special cleaning with intensive wood cleaner and to use Maintenance Oil (natural or white) the white apparently gives a limed appearance. The Manufacture of the wood is Natures Own European Oak. It doesn't look as though it is brushed either, it looks dipped in possibly a wax oil the finish as it is oiled back and front and there are certain parts in the wood that does not look to be oiled especially in some knots. Which is why I don't really want to leave it especially a whole year before re-oiling. I have enclosed a couple of pics but I really don't know what information you will be able to see apart from its a dull finish Thank you for any guidance you can give. As you can see it's still a work in progress and the skirtings and kick-boards need to go on to cover the expansion gaps surrounding the walls and appliance cubbys

If your contractor is preparing them - ie sanding back - then you could maybe use Neptune Isoguard treatment oil. I've used the seasoned oak finish ( on an oak floor admittedly - not Pine) and it gives a lovely whitened wood finish similar to their Henley kitchen colour - but you can put more on or less to alter the effect ?! It's in our lounge - so pretty high traffic - and stands up well ! It's a bit expensive ... But worth it in my experience!

It looks really lovely! So what kind of kitchen will yours have? It would be useful for us to know the colour of that, since it's all open plan. I made a sort of moodboard for you of what I'm thinking. I did it with your original sofa choice and slipper chair choice in mind. Wanted to show you a slightly more square slipper chair with a more modern graphic pattern. Don't look at the design of the other sofa, I picked it more for colour than for shape. Just to show you a darker beige. And it goes nicely with that chair. But I like the cream or your original choice too. Will see if I can make a grey version for you and/or something with teal.

Forzaitalia - I had another thread going https://www.houzz.co.uk/discussions/i-need-a-pop-of-colour-dsvw-vd~5545882 where someone suggested I tie it in with all the other dark furniture on the room. Dont you think it would look better based on the pics in the thread linked?

I started another thread titled "need a pop of colour" a few months ago ( i tried to paste the link to & it wouldnt let me). It was about the living room & the oak is the only bit of light furtinutre so someone recommended I tie it in with the other pieces. If you manage to find the link & have a look (you were hugely useful on the thread) do you agree Forzaitalia?

Ah yes Louise I remember! I’m all for painting/staining furniture but I just love oak, it is such a beautiful wood and that unit has a beautiful finish on it. If it had been that orange pine so popular in the 80’ then by all means go ahead, but I am a firm believer that not all the wood in a room has to match. Now this is only my opinion and I’m sure other Houzzers may not agree!
